I have a quick question (and I may be being stupid), but I have a problem with the Libra Colour and calibre.

Before, books would always be sent to the "Books" folder on the device. Now, however, they are all sent to separate author folders not contained in the "Books" folder. Which makes for an organizational mess.

I did also upgraded my computer at basically the same time I got the Libra Colour, so I may have forgotten a setting somewhere. But I tried to go screen-by-screen and copy my settings, so I really don't know.

Any suggestions?

In the KoboTouchExtended driver or the KoboTouch driver, the template I use is
Code:
books/{author} - {series} {series_index:0>2s|| - } {title}
That puts all the eBooks in the books directory.

Why do you really care. if it works?
Kobo has a Library Manager that you use to select what you read.

I almost never look at my Kobos files with Explorer. (Firmware and the rare restore the DB are those exceptions)

I also use KOreader and may use it again once it's compatible with the Libra Colour, so I like having things sorted to where I can find them more easily

But.... If you make good use of collections and series info, items are easy to find in the native Kobo software.

Makes sense. Too bad they don't make it more modern. File names method was my first reader in 2010

Personally, I use the following for my template when sending to my Kobo:

Code:
Elib/{author_sort:sublist(0,1,&)}/{title} - {authors:sublist(0,1,&)}
If you want the series information in the filename:

Code:
Elib/{author_sort:sublist(0,1,&)}/{series:|[|} {series_index:0>2s||] - }{title} - {authors:sublist(0,1,&)}
The :sublist(0,1,&) trims the author/author sort list to the first member to keep the filenames from getting too long. Change Elib to Books to match what you mentioned.

I don't look at the books on the ereader in a file explorer unless I have an issue with the file and want to compare the version on the Kobo to the version in calibre.

The template I posted does put series info in the filename.

But it does not trim the author/author sort. Filename/path length limits can and will be exceeded.

For sending to a Kobo, putting the series/series index in the filename is, to me, basically useless since the Kobo GUI will happily display the series/series index. All it does is to increase your chances of exceeding the filename/path limit.

One example would be The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume One, 1929-1964 which using your untrimmed names and series gives me a total of 567 characters:

Code:
Robert Silverberg (ed) & Stanley G_ Weinbaum & John W_ Campbell & Lester Del Rey & Robert A_ Heinlein & Theodore Sturgeon & Isaac Asimov & A_ E_ Van Vogt & Lewis Padgett & Clifford D_ Simak & Fredric Brown & Murray Leinster & Judith Merril & Cordwainer Smith & Ray Bradbury & C_ M_ Kornbluth & Richard Matheson & Fritz Leiber & Anthony Boucher & James Blish & Arthur C_ Clarke & Jerome Bixby & Tom Godwin & Alfred Bester & Damon Knight & Daniel Keyes & Roger Zelazny - The Science Fiction Hall of Fame 1 - The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume One, 1929-1964.epub
Sadly calibre will truncate the path and filename to stay below 240 characters.

Using my trimmed without series gives me 100 characters:
Code:
Silverberg, Robert/The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume One, 1929-1964 - Robert Silverberg (ed).epub
Using my trimmed with series gives me 122 characters (I did shorten the series to SF Hall of Fame when I imported the book to calibre):

Code:
Silverberg, Robert/[SF Hall of Fame 1] - The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume One, 1929-1964 - Robert Silverberg (ed).epub
And yes, I do like having all the authors in an anthology shown to make it easier to search.

Using {authors:sublist(0,1,&)} instead of the default {authors} got rid of that weird truncation error I was getting, where some files (anthologies with multiple authors) would end up in /Boks/ and /Bks/ etc.

Thank you, DNSB!

Calibre 6.29 and colour.

Just got a Kobo Colour (have not used Kobo in years) and followed this thread to see how to get my Calibre to connect. I am using Calibre 6.29 because of the age of my mac. Currently it does not see the device when it is connected. Is there a plug in that I need to download or something I can do?

Thanks.

Just use one of the other (less featured) builtin's
Connect to folder or save to disc.
Those only need the OS to see the device storage as a drive.
You will need to do the additional lifting (file management)

That is what I am doing but was hoping that there was a way to manage directly. Hoping it is a plug-in issue and not an inherent limitation of being stuck on 6.29 until I can afford a newer mac.
