The Light Between Oceans needs just one more nod so we have at least two books in the vote.

I would like to nominate Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

Should anyone need it here is the synopsis from Goodreads:

Spoiler:
At once a Gothic thriller, a passionate romance, and a cautionary tale about the dangers of science, Frankenstein tells the story of committed science student Victor Frankenstein. Obsessed with discovering the cause of generation and life and bestowing animation upon lifeless matter, Frankenstein assembles a human being from stolen body parts but; upon bringing it to life, he recoils in horror at the creature's hideousness. Tormented by isolation and loneliness, the once-innocent creature turns to evil and unleashes a campaign of murderous revenge against his creator, Frankenstein.

It's the 200th anniversary of its first publication this year and though I've seen a few movies, seen it referenced thousands of times in pop culture, I've never read the actual novel. I hear that some of the tropes and stereotypes that have built up around the story and the creature in particular are not based on the actual novel so it would be interesting and fun to get back to the source.

It's available where ever you get your out of copyright books, including here on Mobileread (mobi, epub).

(Those links are to the more common 1831 edition but if picked I'll be reading the original 1818 version).

If this wins, I can convert the PRC into a well formatted ePub which can then read as is or converted to KF8.

Hey, folks, seriously! Has everyone already read The Old Man and the Sea, and that's why it's not getting any love? If so, great, and I'll move on. But if not, you're missing a superb book, and I wasn't the only one who thought so, given the number of awards it won, including the Pulitzer. Really, if you're thinking you know what Hemingway is, and it will be all gun porn, you're seriously wrong! This is a touching, but serious, story of an old man, a boy, and a marlin. Which doesn't begin to capture it. So, unless everyone has read it, I urge you to consider giving it a nod.

I've read the original book a long time ago and this brought up the thought of reading the other books in the series.

no, it wasn't up to the original. And frankly, this is a case of the series being far better than the book.

Oh, I loathed the series, especially as it got older. It was so smug and preachy. And Hawkeye was particularly annoying as he engaged in virtually constant what would now be considered sexual harassment, but the show presented him as so compassionate and caring. Faugh.
