So, I was one of the people that ordered one when they were available. Maybe the last one, I dunno.
But I got a notification today from DHL that it had arrived at a Hong Kong sorting facility. Delivery is now expect on Monday the 31st. I'm really getting excited now. |

Does anyone know if "poke" translates into something interesting in another language? Because in English, it's a strange word to use as the name of a device.
Every time I see this thread I wonder about this |

It's a strange word in English, being both a verb meaning to jab or prod, and an archaic noun for a bag. (As in "a pig in a poke")

"poke" is a the name of a Rarotongan dessert - something starchy made from bananas iirc. My Cook Island friends swear by it, I personally would be more likely to swear at it.

A "poke" is a small conical container, usually made of paper. As in "a poke of chips".

A couple of other definitions for poke.
The projecting brim on the front of a bonnet. An Hawaiian marinated seafood salad. And this without having to leave English behind. |

So it's not named after the Hawaiian raw fish dish that all the hipsters are clamoring after?

Interesting that two cousin languages, Hawaiian and Cook Island Māori, have such different definitions for a word spelled identically in both.

I was familiar with the English terms poke as a verb, or a bag ("pig in a poke"), poke bonnet, pokeweed.... None of which I associate with ereaders
