I'm glad I joined the cult of Jobs and iPad but when I accepted the EULA during the sign-up process I thought I read something about drinking some Kool-Aid BEFORE going up in the mother-ship. Were they supposed to send it to me by mail or was I supposed to make my own?
Seriously: I love my iPad and just because I have one doesn't make me a fan boy. I actually like the fact that when I install an app it will always work on my device (unlike adding software to my Linux or Windows system). Is Jobs controlling? Yep but I can live with that as I like the end results in this case. Just my $0.02. |

Me: YES Computer: so your absolutely sure you want to install ?? Me: Not that I want to bash Windows completely. I love the lay-out options Office 2007 has to offer. But I love my Mac even more |

Getting back to topic, I'll admit I don't understand the iPad. It doesn't seem to do anything that isn't already accomplished by all the other electronics I own. I have nothing against it, I just don't get it. |

I wouldn't buy an ipad but I don't agree with those reasons.
I wouldn't buy one mainly because: 1. I have an iphone- so I don't need something which does the same thing but is bigger. 2. It's too big to be portable and would rather carry around my netbook which does more 3. Battery life is not long enough 4. Wouldn't serve my purposes as an ereader and I have better dedicated devices for that. So in summary it serves no purpose for me. |

After seeing the NOOK Color I realized that quality Android tablets will be available by the end of the year for much, much less than the ipad is selling for.

When looking at the battery life, you need to compare it with tablet computers (which is what it is, of course). I get a battery life of something like 12h out of mine, which is superb for a tablet. |

More than 10 Reasons to buy an iPad - Im sure there are even more
1. I can use it to check and write my emails with out the need for WiFi 2. Its smaller and lighter and easier to hold than a laptop or net book 3. Its a brilliant device for ebooks and does not tie you in to a vendor for them. 4. Its a good conversation starter. 5. It does exactly what I need without the weight of a laptop and separate ereader. 6. Has brilliant battery life compared with other tablets and laptops 7. Its useful as well as a fashion statement (what laptop can claim that) 8. It is pretty much Virus Immune, unless jail broken 9. Software Apps start from as little as 59p or 99 cents some are free. 10. If an app crashes, it doesnt crash the whole system (one up on linux and windows) 11. It doesn't allow that outdated, resource hungry, bug riddled, massive security flaw called flash! 12. Its ideal for me to sit and write my stories, anywhere as its more portable than a laptop. 13. Its got one of the best user interfaces going for the phone and tablet format, so much so that others have tried to replicate the interface. If I think of any more I will edit this post and add them as I think of some more. Incidentally these are my thoughts, not some copied from a newspaper article, like the OP's Last edited by mjhudston; 12-24-2010 at 08:00 AM. Reason: updated number 11 |

Good set of reasons, mjhudston, although I'd note that all but 12 could equally apply to my Galaxy S mobile phone (and even 12 in a pinch).
I'm not sure this one's valid though: Quote:

Maybe a poor choice of words, but flash is a security flaw in any system it's installed, and is extreemly resource hungry! I've updated number 11 to be more accurate.

I tried out an Ipad but I would have to say that despite its attractive appearance and beautiful clear screen, it didn't really impress me as a useful tool. Kind of like a beautiful sports car when what you really need is a fuel efficient sedan. My Asus netbook is less glamorous but does all the jobs I need.
Unfortunately the IPad comes well down on the long list of things I need to buy, but I have to say it is really beautiful. |
