Kindle Scribe

An e-ink device of that size and weight holds no interest for me. I like a smaller, light device for entertainment reading. And my iPad fits my needs when I want a larger screen and more functionality. (It helps that I have no problem using an LCD screen for extended periods.)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure my iPad is around 10'' in size, not sure I want two devices that size.

It's annoying it has the wedge shape and it doesn't even have the excuse of having buttons there. I don't love the shape of the Oasis/Libra etc., but I put up with it because of the buttons. I really want the shape of the kindle 4 non-touch with the tiny side buttons, but with the excellent screen, lighting + warm lighting + white on black + water proofing. I don't really care all that much about screen size either.

I notice there seems to be no white on black text option either? Understandable due to handwritten notes, I suppose?

I remember. I clung happily to my little basic Kindles until the Voyage came out. No Touch or Paperwhite for me.

They chose Scribe over Passages I guess. Not sure that I need a device for notetaking and may stick with my Oasis for a while longer.

Wonder if your handwritten notes show up on other Kindle devices and apps. Or if they have any plans to let you create them with the Kindle apps.

Will PDF annotations show up properly in Acrobat? How do they round trip with Word, when there's no native support for DOC/DOCX? But it's theoretical question, I would just use my iPad, not this.

I don't have any interest in the stylus and writing features. I'd rather they let me connect a keyboard and type.

I have seen signs of the ability to display handwritten note annotations being added to recent versions of Kindle apps. It appears to be tied to KFX format (enhanced typesetting). I don’t know about creating them.

That would seem likely. Their major competitor in the West had a product without a Kindle equivalent on the market for over a year, closing that gap makes sense. It will be interesting to see if they also go after the other Kobo product they don't have an equivalent for, the Sage.

Very likely a vanishingly small market. I suspect the many people would say that such a device would too big to travel well and too heavy to hold for an extended period.
