Prime Day for existing subscribers =

I switched my sub to monthly just on the off chance they'd do a gift card reload deal where you can get $20 credit, since it ran out on the 13th. If they do I'll get $5 more than the monthly sub + can gift my friend that streams another free Prime Twitch sub + get a few more free games during the month from Twitch Prime, so I will hopefully come out ahead. Either way I cancel it next month.

I'll admit I'm not hugely optimistic about the reload credit for existing subscribers actually happening this time, though.

I stopped doing a Prime Day thread after I dropped Prime last November. Instead I went with a Black Friday in July thread this year (which includes Prime Day). Given the nature of these stores starting their BFiJ sales many weeks early (just like Black Friday), the savings haven't been all that great. BFiJ looks to be no better than any of their other major sales.

I seriously doubt I'll even do this thread next year given the low turnout. Time will tell.

Just as a general FYI, it’s MR policy not to lock threads except in very rare cases, mostly for flame wars. You are welcome to post there to direct people to the deals thread, which still lets them comment on Prime Day in general in the thread if they want.

Surprisingly, a number of inexpensive items on my "save for later" list had Prime Day prices, and I saved about $10 on a handful of boring necessities. I also picked up a Samsung SSD 1TB portable drive for $80; I think this was $110 at Amazon the other day. So I'm happy.

I noticed that Amazon is offering 2 percent extra for Prime Day purchases paid with Amazon-branded cards (so a total of 7 percent) if you choose no-rush shipping. Seriously? For an extra couple of bucks I should wait a full week longer for my stuff? That's a long time for not much of an incentive.
