Try installing it again. It sounds like something triggered the failsafe.

That did it. And invert screen now works in the main and reading menus.

Well done, and thank you.

Excellent work, thank you all for this. Just a question, to make sure I get it right. The 20 seconds safe-guard time to self-remove is valid after the first boot, right? I had as well needed to reinstall it afer going to KOReader too fast, with a pure setup, i.e. without kfmon installed. Again: the fact that this survives a firmware upgrade is brilliant indeed. Thank you!

@gogu1904: After *every* boot (and it's now 10s in git builds ). The timer starts (roughly, +/- ~5s) a few seconds after the spinner appears.

(Well, since you mentioned KOReader, technically, after every *nickel* startup. i.e., same deal when you exit KOReader and it restarts Nickel).

@JohJohYah: See the Homescreen's hamburger menu? Imagine new items added at the end of it. Ta-da!

I'll add some later. It's pretty simple though, just imagine another menu item in the menu above "Settings" or below "Dictionary".

Yes. I'm considering removing it completely (i.e. making it 4s), as there's pretty much no need for that part, as it will already trigger if it segfaults during init and Nickel doesn't create the menus until later when you actually press the menu.

@geek1011: Yep, makes sense.

IIRC, the fastest (cold) Nickel startup I can get is ~10s.

Neat!!!

Is there a way to toggle (turn off) wifi with this? I'd love to add that to the reading menu to save power.

Hi, friends.
I am excited about this tool. So I started testing and I indicate the ones that I have verified that they work, in case it helps someone.
This is my config: (koreader with the last nightly)

menu_item :main :Koreader :cmd_spawn :/bin/sh -c mnt/onboard/.adds/koreader/koreader.sh
menu_item :main :Coolreader :cmd_spawn :/bin/sh -c mnt/onboard/.adds/vlasovsoft/launcher.sh > /dev/null 2>&1
menu_item :main :Reboot :cmd_spawn :/bin/sync; /bin/busybox reboot
menu_item :main :Sincronizar DRIVE :cmd_spawn :/bin/sh -c mnt/onboard/.adds/kobocloud/sincronizarDRIVE.sh

Edit: The last menu_item is a 'sh' based on the content of kobocloud

Looks good in general, but a few notes:
  • You don't need the "sh -c", as that's already prepended by default.
  • You don't need the "> /dev/null 2>&1", as that's also included by default.
  • I'll probably add a separate reboot action, as that still isn't totally clean (Nickel has a lot of stuff it does on reboot/shutdown).

Edit: You'll have proper shutdown/reboot actions in the release later today.

hi geek1011, thanks for your suggestions. I'll change them now.

Another question. I read with koreader until 01:00 am more or less, and I have established into koreader that Clara HD will turn off at 3:00 am. It is turn off from koreader. Yesterday and today libnm.so has been renamed libnm.so.failsafe, so NickelMenu disappears every time when turn on Clara HD. I tell you for your knowledge

@Carmelocotonto: You tripped the failsafe.

Which tells me you launched KOReader too early after boot.

Reinstall, then check the syslog after starting KOReader.
