Well, it sounds like the Great Retirement goes well then. I have to constantly remind myself that your parents are not MY (late) parents' ages; they're mine (age) so that I stop thinking of them as debilitated invalids, lol, in their late-80's-90's!

My sister and I are now at the stage where we're going through our things and see what will fit in the new house, and for the things that won't fit we have to decide what we're throwing away, what we're donating and what we're putting up online to give away for free (big things that won't fit in my sister's car). This afternoon we're heading for my sister's garage and hopefully finish sorting that stuff and afterwards we're going to pick up a couple of boxes of dvds/cds/book from my storage unit to sort through next week.
Ah, reminds me I need to finish clearing out my "commercial" closets...all the biz suits, etc. that I wore and will no longer ever need. I admit it's oddly difficult to toss them.

Looking at houses is very addictive. I've still got the app on my tablet and regularly look at apartments and houses for fun. Mind you, I always loved TV shows like BBCs Homes under the Hammer and Escape to the Country, so it shouldn't surprise me.
I was never one for those home improvement shows, so this actually did surprise me, but hey. Knowing her, it'll take her a year to find something and then, abruptly, in the space of 3 days, she'll find it, sign, move. LOL. She's like that.

We didn't sell a lot of light fixtures, some simple one occasionally. We did sell the light bulbs.

But my father is finding that light fixtures that fit in a high ceilinged old building won't all fit in a modern apartment. They are using the table lamps and two standing lamps. But the big globe shades (40cm+) don't fit will in a regular apartment.

In the kitchen and bathroom the former owner had build in spot lights. Which aren't my father's favourite (really, none of us like them). So he found lights that will fit into the holes in the ceiling but have a bulb protruding outward so it gives more general light. The only problem is my father didn't get a LED driver, so he needs to still get that before he can install the ceiling lights.

Then they need ceiling light fixtures. They basically want elegant looking boob lights, but all you can get in most lighting stores are either very basic, plastic ones or very modern ones that my parents don't like. For this week they have a trip planned to a store they bought the dining chairs from, they sell a lot of second hand items in parents' style, including light fixtures.

If they can't find anything they like my father said he would make them himself. Which made my mother sigh. Whilst my father can make light fixtures the chances of that happening quickly/at all are very slim.

Mind you, lighting is difficult we have found ourselves. Either it's really modern or it's a light fixture where you look straight into bulb and it's blinding, especially if it's a brighter bulb.

I'm going through my cd collection today. See what needs to be digitized, what can be donated and what I want to keep.

I've been going through my cd, dvd and book collections these last couple of weeks. Before I started I thought I would want to save more books than dvds and cds. But it now looks like I find it easier to donate books and dvds (not a box full of each so far) and have most problem with donating cds.

At least cds take up least space of the three.

Enjoying a quiet morning.

Yesterday we went to a big furniture store to look at sofas and coffee tables. This afternoon we're going to a DIY store to pick up paint sample cards and stuff to help remove wallpaper.

In two months we should be in the new house. And even though I don't have the illusion that everything will be finished by that time all the big things are done (floors, walls, painting) and we can relax a little bit more.

Waiting for DHL to deliver my Kobo Libra Colour, plus accessories. Which should be delivered in the next three hours. I'm hoping DHL is early for once.

I just got back from taking my old bicycle to a recycling depot. Where they check donated bikes, do any repairs necessary and then put them up for sale for €30 for people who don't have a lot of money (they can get a card from the city that gives them discounts throughout the city). They were very happy with my old bike, according to them it was still a really nice bike, with a ring lock, chain lock, carrier and crate on the front and a really good saddle. I hope someone will be very happy with it.

Oddly, in the same situation except for UPS instead of DHL. It was supposed to out for delivery on Tuesday but was not. UPS shows it out for delivery today supposedly between 10:30 and 14:30.

edit: The package finally arrived at 17:38 and I'm busily setting it up.

I'll be interested in your thoughts. I do an extra cash work thing twice a year that nets me enough to buy a new e-reader if I want, and I am just curious enough to maybe jump on this one.

I like it. It has a more gray screen, due to the colour layer. Up close you can see the stippling. I don't mind the darker screen, for my eyes it's better. I'm very sensitive to light when it comes to devices. I hardly ever have the lighting up high. With my Paperwhite Signature Edition, especially at night, I always had trouble finding the right balance between brightness and contrast. It always felt it was either too bright or I was squinting because the contrast was too low. With the Libra Colour I haven't had this problem, mind you, I've only used it for a day and a half so far.

I thought I would miss the auto brightness of the Kindle, but adjusting the lighting is so easy. Plus, I was forever going into the brightness menu on the Kindle to adjust it. The swiping on the Kobo just works better for me.

I got the clear back cover and the pen to go with it. I used to take notes, but I stopped because the lag of the Kindle keyboard was annoying. I'm hoping to get back into highlighting and taking notes.

From Etsy I ordered a zippered case and more decorations to put between the back of the Kobo and the case.

Playing with my Libra Colour. Having fun testing some older add-ons. Some work, some don't. NickelMenu is a happy camper, KOReader works after adding some code, Plato is not happy. NickelClock works but the clock/battery displays flashes on every update. So far the database not being closed on a USB connect issue seems to be fixed. Only 3 factory resets so far which is better than my average for beating on a new ereader.

Comparing my Sage to my Libra Colour, the screen is darker and if I get too close to the screen, I can notice the artifacts from the Kaleido 3 layer. Otherwise, I find it very readable and my older granddaughter liked looking at some kids books on it (their bright blocks of colour work rather well).
