After finishing my reread of Lord of the Rings, I moved on to a couple of Lee Child’s Reacher novels, having enjoyed the series on Amazon Prime. I’m now reading Pam Jenhoff’s Code Name Sapphire, a WW2 historical fiction novel.

I'd read it previously several years ago. It was a great revisit. Next, 'The Sign of Four', a novel also first published in 1890. Last edited by alansplace; 04-17-2024 at 01:43 AM. |

Finished Rule of Three by Jeffrey Deaver; freebee novella, pretty good. I'll read more of his stuff.
Finished Festive In Death by J D Robb. Very much enjoyed. Currently reading Murder By Misrule (book 1 Francis Bacon series) by Anna Castle pseudonym of the late Heidi Anna Johnson. Cozy mysteries set in medieval times. |

I'm reading along (mostly listening) to Shogun by James Clavell as we watch the new version. This is not the first time I've read it, of course, but so many of the details had escaped me, and as good as the new version is (much better than the original Richard Chamberlin version), the book has many more complexities than can easily be portrayed in the TV version. Also, it's a lot easier to ignore the gore. And my final complaint? Blackthorn was TALL, >6ft., blue eyed, and very blonde!

Just read Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus.
Lots of funny writing in there, a pleasant read. Reading Farewell, My Lovely by Raymond Chandler. There's a ton of stuff in there that 80 years on would be considered offensive. |
