I did ask and the person on the phone could not tell me. But he did say feel free to ask when placing the order. And that I will.

did you ask if the CC offer, i.e., the $60 PRS-500, is still going on?

I hope the out-of-stock thing is only temporary, as the SONY site still advertises this model as being in-stock.

All it means is that the rewards company is out of them -- they have to buy them from Sony just like every other retailer. Don't let the fact that they're giving you a deep discount in return for taking their credit card throw you off.

I did call SonyStyle and they said it's not through them that this offer is taking place. It's up to Chase as to what happens. And that's fair enough. Just thought maybe I could do it that way. But I'll just wait for my call or call Sony back if I miss the call.

Hmmm. I was able to put the order in online, and noticed it said the points would be deducted when the reader shipped. So, does that mean they still have them in stock?

Anyway, I checked today, and the points have finally been deducted, but thanks to the wonderfully-designed site that is SonyRewards.com (), it's not really clear if it actually shipped. Even when going to the actual order, there's no status.

Anyone have a tip for determining the shipping status?

Aside from calling them, nothing comes to mind.

Just got my call from Sony Rewards. They said the Reader will be back in stock on Friday or Monday, and I should just follow the normal process from that point to order it.

Can we order before the offer is discontinued?

(From the Sony CC Offer, from clicking on footnote 1):
Quote:
... $49.95 price applies only to purchases of the Sony Reader (FRPRS500U) made at SonyRewards.com with the Sony Card on or before 9/30/2007. ...
I'm posting this on both the threads about this offer, because it could be important. If the Reader is not back in stock on Friday, find out early. Customer service is only open until midnight Eastern time, and not at all over the weekend. And the offer expires Sunday night. So if it's not posted by Friday, it won't be posted until the offer is technically expired.

This seems to me like Sony is trying to weasel out of providing Readers by severely limiting the time frame in which new CC holders can redeem this offer (or perhaps, by just never even offering it to those who got in late).

I'll be hoping right along with the rest of you, as we haven't been able to put in the order for my wife's reader yet (yes, we each got our own CCs to be able to get two readers).

Good luck all!

When I called up sony about this, they told me that they were out of stock, and suggested several other offers that were 100-150$ credits towards the purchase of some item... when I pushed to find out what would happen if i applied for the card, and it took 15-20 days they put me on hold, for quite a while.

when they returned I was told that the reader would be offered at that price to people who applied during that time, but that the device was going to take 60-90 days to get to me. Also if I had any trouble ordering it on the website to call back in once my card is approved. Sounds like they will either make it work, or they actually gave me the opportunity to become a very assertive customer.

Heres hopping that we get some awesome discount on some sony reader

Hey everyone. I have found this website and became interested in getting an E-Book reader, ever since.

About two weeks from today, I sent out a request for the Visa card, but I haven't received any reply at all. Is this normal? Was I denied, or is this time frame expected?

If I'm denied, would I be notified (Although, I don't know why I would, considering my good credit line.)

Anyway, thanks.

Hey, defzeppelin, welcome to MobileRead!

I'd suggest giving them a call, that seems to light a fire where it'll do the most good.

My SonyCard arrived, and I followed the helpful instructions on page 19 of this thread. Signing up for rewards gave me the 50 points, then starting the wish list gave me another 50 points. I put the Reader into the cart (27,999 point cost) and the cart automatically tallied a "points total (includes discount)" of 5,999. Then the 100 points were applied, leaving me with 5,899 points to buy.

There was no mention of the Reader being back ordered or out of stock. I'll let you know when (or if) the Reader arrives.

Thanks very much to all of you for sharing your knowledge!

Was it the 500 or 505 you purchased?

The 500. The old one, not the new model.

They are sorting out my problem. I'll call them back on Friday if I don't hear from them by then. My problem is because I ordered the reader when it really wasn't there, the site thinks I already ordered it and charged me the full price.
