Yeah, that was thanks to Apple forcing their context-sensitive menu on everyone...in the color scheme Apple chose...not really a "bug" in Marvin. Granted Marvin hasn't been updated to "fix" Apple's error, but I wouldn't call that a "bug". Also, it is possible to see the color changes, and the 3 options to edit an existing highlight are still there. They are just off-white with a white background...a little challenging to see, but readable. They also don't change relative position between highlight edits (however often someone actually does that) so, if you can remember their position, there really isn't a problem using it.

If anyone is to blame, it's the author. If all the author had to do was change the menu coloring, then that should have been an easy enough fix. |

Not the point. “Removal” was not mentioned at all.
The software the author created did not have a “bug” in it. Worked great for years with no change required. The software Apple forces on everyone changed, which caused this issue. So, no bug. But we do have a workaround to fix the problem caused by Apple. Marvin still works… even if you no longer care for the way it works. |

calibre did the same thing when it moved from Python 2 to Python 3 and also when it changed version of QT. Is it the fault of Kovid that some plugins no longer work with calibre 7? It's ABANDONWARE! Marvin was abandoned as well as the plugins that will not work with calibre 7. |

Again…not the point…
You were trying to say it was a “bug”. It is not. Changing your argument and moving the goal post doesn’t make it a bug. |

Ok. So we agree it was not a bug.
It would be nice to have it so it’s easier to see, but it isn’t broken. It still works just fine. On the few occasions one needs to actually edit a highlight: - you can easily see, and change, the color of the highlight. - you can determine, although not quite as easily see (thanks Apple) that the options, in order, are: Edit, Share, Delete. All work properly. |

I would bet money that Apple has no idea whether or not it works...they just have a computer that lists all the apps that haven't been updated in x amount of time, and end up removing those.

I haven’t read every page of this thread but I assume there is still no word on Marvin. I have an idea I’d like to run by everyone here.
What if we do manage to get in contact with the developer (I may be able to help with that) and offer him a proposal. He (or a hired gun) can update his app if we can get enough people to pre-purchase the updated version via kickstarter. A reasonable purchase price with enough backers could result in the project being profitable enough for him to want to take it on. And if not him, another developer could do the work. |

Checkout page 17 of this thread, post #254, for directions on how to restore Marvin to your device - even though it is not on the Apple Store anymore.
There are a few clarifying posts after that one as well. If you can get in touch with Kris that would be awesome! He hasn't replied to my emails. |

I think commercially it's not a great proposition but enough people are interested that we could make it work open source. |

Kris isn't making anything off of Marvin anymore. If we could induce him to allow it to go open source that would be Great! |
