No, but most hardcovers have. It just depends on how much light you shine on them.

But I would happily go with off-white or a very light grey.

But I could never really get into the K3 (compared with an iPad or Galaxy Tab), just because of the strong lamp I need to shine on it to read it easily. Could be my eyes are less sensitive, I dunno, stands to reason it's individual. But it always, for me personally, was the one flaw of the Kindle I had trouble with.

The non-touch K4 is just going to be a pain to use as using the keyboard is not going to be nice. Get over it. Get the touch if you want a new Kindle.

If you're use to a game controller I read it's not so bad. You can switch between tabs by using the page buttons.

None of my Hard Covers do unless it's non fiction. I have few non fiction that looks like a textbook would.

But given that so many other devices such as tablets & cell phones have virtual keyboards and touch screens and I don't see complaints about them being touch, why the complaints about IR touch? Especially since IR touch with Pearl shows fingerprints less then most phones/tablets.

I had to cover a friends shift at a cell shop a few months back, I had to deal with quite a few complaints about damage/swapping models to get a keypad etc. I'd say most of them were professionals, 30+, perhaps not people that leave consumer comments on websites

Personally, I use an ancient flip-open nokia with full qwerty, since I need to use it for terminal access, ssh and such - at least the family doesn't mind free smartphones when upgrade time arrives I type quite a bit on my K3, and I clean my accidental smudges, since I notice them a lot under halogen illumination in my bedroom (ambient lighting seems to show them up far less).

But then again, I also own a few mechanical keyboards, because I find membrane/scissor switches to be worse.

Hmmmm, a think a bunch of your buddies in the Sony forum with 505s would disagree with your keyboard philosophy.

There is two types of Kindle 4s The Buttons and Touch and I bought them both

The one doesn't have touch so that everyone can afford it. $79 is the cheapest eReader ever. This is why it's basic. Even kids can have one now. This is what they are going for. It's Christmas time and Amazon really hit it with this one.

I currently have 3 kindle keyboards with the nice lighted covers.

I'm considering getting one of the new kindle 4's (Non-Touchscreen)
since the price is low enough that it would be good to have as one I
would not be as concerned about if something happened to it.
(One I could leave in my car, or at work etc).

Sounds good that it's better, but to my mind it will have to be a nearly white background for it to be really good.
The reason you don't hear about it in articles is that is the state of the art right now. It's either this or LCD. I'd love to have a nealy white background too, but we're not going to get it with eink in the near future. Maybe some other tech will come along and rescue us from the gray. At least we don't have to pay $400 for the first gen eink.

To further rain on the parade, I think the jury is still out whether the contrast is really better.

Damm! I never thought I was gonna say this, buy maybe you're right, lol ...

The reason for that is that without physical keyboard, a virtual one via touchscreen becomes a must. Unless the user does not type a lot or barely used the physical keyboard before, it will be a bit annoying. That's my opinion of course. I do that with my Roku or PS3 and drives me crazy!

Now, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Sony readers have virtual keyboards so typing without a physical one it's not as bad.

Not hard to use the keyboard at all on the non-touch.
