legally you are not allowed to redistribute it, read apple's EULA in itunes. then again you're not allowed to jailbreak either..

word of advice from a long-time jailbreaker. do not i repeat do NOT upgrade your OS to 4.0, 3.1.4, 3.2, or whatever new version is released if you want to keep your jailbreak. if you're one of those people who has to upgrade immediately you may find yourself locked out and unable to jailbreak at all if the team is not able to find a new method to break into the OS (which is getting harder and harder with each release, apple closes up security holes the dev team exploits). also do not post and bug the dev-team asking when a new jailbreak will be released, it will be released when they have verified it works and is safe. it may take weeks (and i mean 2-3 months) after 4.0 is released before a jailbreak is let loose to the public, as was the case when 3.x was released.

if you're going to jailbreak it pays to educate yourself a little by following the dev-team blog on their web site or on twitter to prevent future issues.

i also strongly recommend reading the cydia FAQ and saving a shsh for your iDevice to help insure you can jailbreak in the future.

Seems like my version is more stable.

It's a free app so am I allowed to share it or is there a way to get the older version?
I am using the latest Stanza version.

Well, the iPhone version is coming out months before the iPad is so perhaps we won't have to wait much

i suspect the iphone version will be 4.0 and by the ipad version is released (apple did say this fall) we'll be up to 4.x. (4.01 or 4.1 or something similar). with each release apple closes up the holes the jailbreak team exploits. patience is definitely needed if you're going to be a jailbreaker.

i'm just trying to save the people who are new to the jailbreak scene some heartache and frustration in the future. you'll see after any new OS version is released a few dozen posts by people "i just updated and now i can't jailbreak, when will it be released!?!?!?!?!?!!?" and worse. the jailbreak team did not do a release for 3.1.3 because they did not feel it was worth giving up one of their exploits for, people who jumped from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 found themselves locked out until the spirit jailbreak was released, and they were lucky that it was. it would not have been were it not for the ipad's release.

the dev team does their work out of the kindness of their hearts and their desire to hack apple's devices, they do not get paid for their efforts (which is illegal in the US). it is amazing how poorly they are treated some times, just read some of the postings people put on their blog. or how their efforts are copied and then sold for profit by scam artists.

The ability to have stanza is more important to me than any of the announced 4.0 features

Why is Stanza so important when it really isn't all that good? On the iPod Touch, the txtr app just blows away Stanza.

blasphemy!

just kidding. everyone has their preference. i like stanza on my iphone, but the bugs using it on my ipad turned me off to it. it was the best ereader application and a major threat to amazon, which is why they killed it off rather than compete. while ibooks has its flaws i've gotten used to it and would rather work with an application that has future development than one that doesn't. but everyone has their preferences.

i actually still use calibre to manage my ebook library of .epub (drm stripped) and pdf files and then copy them into ibook/goodreader as necessary. i've found the combination of the two to be superior to stanza. but everyone has their own preferences.

Txtr is pretty aweful. Hearing you preach about it in thread after thread makes me wonder if you are working for the comment. The only good thing I see about it is the adobe drm support which would work with my local library. I'd still have to suffer through it's scrolling page metaphor which really is a major turn off.

If I was more adept at stripping off drm, I'd stick with calibre/iTunes/iBooks...but now I have Stanza on the iPad and it works wonderfully.

stripping epub and PDF files of adept really isn't hard, there are several guides out there if you google for them. I try to buy all my files DRM free, even paying a few more bucks for them to show my support of the vendors, but i strip them if i have to. I won't be locked into one vendor or reader app if I can prevent it.

Well I'm sold. I tried to read "Designing Web Interfaces" that I purchased in the O'Reilly sale in readMe, and it was completely unusable.

The spiritjb was the easiest and fasted JB I've ever used. And full force on Stanza works well enough for me, no crashes yet. Best is that I'm able to read my book now, and using the catalog instead of the web server for calibre was great.

So back to Stanza for me for now!

Hi all my stanza is version 2.1.1

And can not get it to crash!!! I've tried everything.

I believe it would be possible to get this version by installing installous just search for a how to install it guide then search for stanza and install this version if the crashing borrows anyone.

It should be pointed out installs CAN also be used to get hold of cracked apps which is of course illegal however it is a good place to get older versions of free apps or apps you have already paid for.

I'm reading the Bourne Deception as my first Stanza book on the iPad. I love the way Stanza has integration with Calibre -- and with online book sources like Fictionwise, Baen, ManyBooks, and lots more.

I still like the iBooks app best for reading. The Stanza reading is "not bad", IMHO. I would prefer larger margins.

Larger margins? Heck, iBooks has ridiculously overly large margins.
