Give Sony a call. Tell them you'll pay for shipping both ways to have your 500 upgraded. They'll probably fix it. And maybe if you are really lucky, give you a 505 in return. But you have nothing to lose except the cost of shipping.

Not all bricked readers can be recovered
Sony just called.
Surprise, surprise, they cannot update my reader due to "issues with the unit freezing during upgrade". They are offering me a free exchange to the Sony PRS-300 (pocket-reader). I will probably take this offer. I will miss the SD slot and larger screen, but at least I'll have a working reader. For anyone else considering an update with the Universal Flasher, think twice. Is it worth potentially losing your reader? For a real bricked device, you won't get any support on this forum, other than what you've seen in this thread. The "unbricking" section of the wiki will not fix all bricked units. |
