But if we are going to have categories, why not stick with them? We agreed to change the August category to instead of being a book about recent times to a book written in recent times. And Lovecraft does not fit at all.

1984 was discussed to death in English class. Been there, done that and don't want to do it again. Let's do something different then what most of us have already done in school.
