Does anyone know what the actual battery specs are? It just says "weeks of battery life," whatever that means. I think the original Elipsa had a 2400mAh battery, and some of the reviews say it has the same battery, so I'm hoping Kobo didn't downgrade the battery, but I'd like to know for certain before I shell out $399.

For Canadians, the Kobo Elipsa 2E is now available for pre-order at Indigo.ca, with the same $25 Kobo gift-card thrown in that you'd get by ordering direct from Kobo Canada. The advantage of buying through Indigo is that returns are much easier, in that you can take online Indigo purchases back to any Indigo or Chapters bookstore (or, of course, return by mail if you wish) without hassling with a return-merchandise authorization from Kobo.

Also note that, taking exchange rates into account, the device is cheaper in Canada: US$399 is Cdn$537, but Kobo Canada and Indigo have the Elipsa 2 priced at Cdn$499.

That’s a great question. I haven’t heard.

Makes me wonder what other information Kobo hands out to journalists that it doesn’t feel the need to add to their website.

I have perfect vision and I have no problem seeing the difference between 300 and sub-300 PPI. For me it's critical since the technology for 300 PPI now exists. And no, I don't have to have the readers side by side and be actively looking for it.

The thing that constantly annoys me with ereaders is the lack of clarity and/or sharpness. There is no excuse for not maximizing that on a device that literally has reading as it's main purpose.

(I have the same problem with computer screens. 25" 4K screens just aren't sharp enough and anything better isn't well supported enough or is too expensive.)

I would also love page turn buttons.

So this is a definite no-buy.

And I am surprised that there's no SD card slot and only 32GB of space.

Aha. The Kobo Elipsa 2e Reviewer Guide pdf (available on Kobo's website) states that the battery is 2,400 mAh. So that answers that question.

The pre-order with $25 Kobo gift card isn’t available on Walmart yet where I like to purchase my Kobos — for the reason you state: easy returns. Returning through Kobo proper is such a slow, painful ordeal. Right now, I’d only be able to get that preorder bundle through Kobo‘s US website. I have not ordered through Indigo before. Can I do it from the US? I wouldn’t mind saving some money.

@Cootey I've ordered from Indigo in the past for shipment to U.S. but you may want to check current shipping charges. (It's been a while since I looked)

Edit: Just for fun, I filled out the info with the following results:

Bundle + sleepcover: 589.98 CA$

Shipping to U.S.(my location): 19.67 CA$

Total: 609.65 CA$

Using today's rate CA => US$: 453.07

I am so MAD! I just got the Elipsa last week. Now the new one is out. UGHHHH if I only waited The only difference is it has the warm light and more templates. I hope the old model gets the new templates in an update. I guess i will just have to live without the warm light

Can you return it? Sometimes it pays to keep watch of particular threads (like the speculating starting last December). In this thread, scroll down to post #125 providing link to the unboxing video on 3/26:

That’s almost $50 less expensive than ordering it from the US website.. Thanks for doing that! I will strongly consider it.

Yes, more or less, depending on one's added state tax, if applicable.

CC is charged when shipped (unlike Kobo), so exchage rate would apply on that date. Also, it's unknown exactly when they ship.

I wanted it without a cover (and pen) assuming the price would be less. The Kobo Elipsa Pack (includes cover) is $395 on Amazon U.S. site and Elipsa SE (cover not included) at the Amazon store is $399.

It costs more to save the planet. Or something.
