It might be a last resort for people who can't buy directly from Amazon.
I had to buy my Oasis from a Danish reseller. This reseller lives near the border to Germany and probably buys directly from Amazon.de.

It will of course make the device more expensive.

Amazon isn't meant to be a "try and see if you like it" operation. I've been buying on Amazon for years, and have returned things when they didn't work, or were not advertised correctly. The average consumer isn't going to have the issue you mentioned.

Those who try to work the system, or return too many purchases may end up with a closed account. But Amazon isn't alone or unique in having a return limit. Brick & mortar stores have done this for many years.

The times I've read about this, those customers did not lose their digital content. They just couldn't buy any more.

You can be unlucky with a courier or product or supplier using Amazon.
Also if you are buying lots and a customer a long time, the returns will build up.

You have alternatives if one local chain is awkward. Also legal recourse such as the very cheap small claims court. There is no recourse with Amazon and they aim to be a monopoly.

Are you saying you can't take Amazon to small claims court?

Onyx has promised to look into the matter to ensure that customers are fully aware of where their devices are shipping from and that they might therefore incur additional costs. I don't have a problem with Amazon having a limit on returns. I don't even really care that they don't tell you what the limit is. I do have a problem with having one's account be closed as the FIRST sign that there is an issue.

A warning or two is in order.
