There is no way for *me* to answer your question. I'm in the Kindle store daily and my impression is that there are way more books published by publishing houses (large and small) than there are self-published titles.
Mobipocket web site shows 97688 books by doing a search on abstract with the word "the". A search of the Sony store shows 52517.
