Detective Comics (1937-2011) #27 is free at:
Amazon.com, BN.com, and ComiXology After snagging the book at ComiXology, I searched Amazon.com using the keyword phrase "detective comics", selected the Kindle format, and sorted the results by "Price: low to high". The results: 10 freebies, some comics (including the above-mentioned title), some ebooks. (FYI, Amazon.com indicates related searches are: batman, detective comics 27, justice league.) Searching the same keyword phrase at ComiXology yields several additional free titles, including the "Extra" I've posted below. Finding the freebies requires scrolling over each cover. Detective Comics (1937-2011) #27: Special Edition (Batman 75 Day Comic) Publisher's description: In his 75 years, Batman has been the central figure at the forefront of graphic storytelling. From the printed page to the big screen, Bob Kane's creation has never been a more significant fixture in popular culture the world over. This BATMAN 75 DAY COMIC 2014, free for a limited time, features the Dark Knight's origin from DETECTIVE COMICS #27 in 1939, as well a retelling of the story by New York Times bestselling novelist Brad Meltzer and illustrator Bryan Hitch and another short story by current BATMAN scribe Scott Snyder and artist Sean Murphy. Also included is a sneak peak at the reimagining of Batman's 1939 comic book debut, designed by Chip Kidd with a script by Meltzer. Join us as we celebrate the Dark Knight's 75th anniversary. Holy Caped Crusader! It's "Batman Day" at BN.
As that bookstore's home page announces, it's "Batman Day" at BN. •Searching the keyphrase "DC Comics" in the NOOK Books format yields 6 free titles •Searching the keyword "batman" in the NOOK Books format yields 9 free titles. (NOTE: There were 10 earlier this morning, so if interested, you might want to grab these comics while they're available.) Of course:

Hey everyone. I've been lurking this forum for a couple weeks and figured I might as well register and chime in here.
I maintain digital comic deal threads at six other websites, and would be happy to cut and paste my finds here as well. Here are a few of the finds from the last two days, which are busier than normal thanks to the San Diego Comic Con of course. Happy Batman Anniversary Day everyone. Today only, Amazon and Comixology both have ten different Batman collections on sale for $2.99 each. https://www.comixology.com/Essential...-off/list/3042 Not sure if just today only or not, but a special edition of Detective Comics #27 is free on Comixology. https://www.comixology.com/Detective...l-comic/125880 Until 7/27, Comixology has a San Diego Comic Con special bundle of 100 of their independent books for $9.99. https://www.comixology.com/SDCC-Submit-Bundle/page/2796 As always, there are several different foreign book sales going on at Comixology, check their main sale page for frequent changes. Lasts until 8/3/14. http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...ro-quick-promo Same book free on Comixology with code batman75 And the onslaught of big sales continues. My wallet needs life support. From Marvel, an Avengers sale lasting until 7/27/14. A few more finds today. Comixology announced on their Tumblr that they'll be selling one book per day for $.45 during ComicCon. Today's book is the normally $10 trade Amelia Cole volume 1, use code Amelia. http://comixology.tumblr.com/cci45 Amazon has the kindle version of the original Detective 27 (just the 9 page Batman story actually, as per the norm on some of these golden age books) for free. http://www.amazon.com/Detective-Comi...s=Detective+27 Marvel is giving away six of their Infinite books for free today. https://comicstore.marvel.com/Free-I...mics/page/2743 |

What do you guys think of Humble Bundle as a comic book store? Do they offer good deals or are rather little more than glorified samplers? The Walking Dead bundle looks interesting to me, although I remember reading the first issue of The Walking Dead back in the day and being disappointed. That probably was unfair, as I had just finished reading The Sandman, still my favorite comic by far, and anything would have looked bland in comparison right then.
And Comixology uses DRM, right? Trying to find a good comic book store, but I am fairly new to all this. |

The first 3 issues of Walking Dead are free at Humble Bundle so you can give it a better look if you want. |

Thanks for the answer.
Actually, while browsing Comixology, I noticed they are offering now a DRM-free backup service. I guess they are learning. And you can browser their DRM-free selection too. That's cool. |

I re-signed up with Comixology, chose 3 free ones, and find I cannot download them (there was no obvious "click here to download" button on the first free one I looked at), so I must read them on line. This I don't have time for and I don't have or want Wi-Fi to download to a tablet (though I don't know if I would own them and be able to back them up locally even then).
Once Comixology offers actual downloadable comics (cbz/cbr/pdf), I may spend some $ with them. For now, I'm glad I found out with free ones that they still don't cater to readers like me. I'll just keep buying them occasionally and scanning them. |
