Right, the Start Menu is the only Metro app you really need to use on a desktop. In the next update you will also be able to PIN metro apps to your desktop taskbar and also access the taskbar from a metro app. So, even if there is a metro app you like (there are some nice ones) then it's not as intrusive.

Better than an add-on to get you a start menu, there is one that allows you to run Metro apps in Windows on your desktop... yet another feature that I'm sure will be in Windows 8.2 or 9 or whatever they call the "Threshold" version they are working on.
