I wouldn’t factory reset quite yet.

You will loose ssh, but it is not guaranteed that Kindle will be fixed

Yeah that's why I didn't do it, I wasn't sure it would fix it. Anyway, here's the logs I could get, letting it run hopefully long enough. Obviously if it's not enough I can do it again, it's still there.

I dont exactly see whats wrong but imo the best course of action would be removing the .sh file you created for library view then checking if that worked and if not install 5.16.2.1.1 fw update (a facttory reset on a kindle really just deletes /var and /mnt/us) an update should replace any tempered system files.

Fair, so just put it in the /mnt/us/ folder and reboot?

Yes, but also remember to do two sinple restarts in a row after that to restore JB. Hopefully, it will come back to life

Edit: Weirdly enough reinstalling 5.16.2.0.1 twice didn't save it, still stuck at the Kindle screen, and doesn't seem to want to boot farther? It does let me mount it on my computer though, so not completely dead. It does still make coredump files, not sure if these would be interesting to try to fix it?

Edit again: Okay, so doing both a reinstall and a DO_FACTORY_RESTORE apparently fixed it. Not quite sure what's happening, but at least I have the language menu again!

Now I'm curious, is there any way to make sure things don't get as bad? I really don't think I did that much to blow it up like this, are Kindles that fragile? I wish there was a way to just reinstall, I've been using android tablets too long lol

New Kindle PW5 don’t have diags partition anymore, and they lack UART port to hardwire falsher, so yes, they are very fragile.

New question, I've been trying to use fakereg to "register" it locally but I always end up with this screen, and I'm not sure why, fakereg is from 2021, did Amazon change something about the registration since then?

Well wifi shows as enabled and the error message implies that it is trying to update.

Maybe some combination disabling wifi on your access point or disconnect incoming internet, and trying "try again" and "Manage wifi" enough times will get you out of it. And maybe some reboots.)
