I've updated the first post to add the Wiki link at the bottom, to raise awarness.

Warwickshire have now got an ebook service, but I'm unable to see how many books they have without being a member, and I'm unable to be a member without living, working or studying in Warwickshire.

As I can't update the ebook count, I won't be adding them to the list post (although I'll add them to the requirements section). If we have a member in Warwickshire willing to let me have the counts then I'll update as and when.

Wokingham don't currently offer ebooks you can load onto a reader but do offer an internet based reader and books - http://www.wokingham.gov.uk/librarie...rvices/ebooks/ as well as other services - http://www.wokingham.gov.uk/librarie...ine-reference/

You need to be a library card holder to access the ebooks service.

Here is a list of joining requirements (where known);

Liverpool - allow you to join on-line. States that they will send membership card to you in the post, but you then have to call into any Liverpool branch to have card authorised.

London - allow you to join on-line, but you have to collect your library card from a London library. Proof of UK ID required at time of Pick-up.

Manchester - allow you to join on-line but you have to collect your library card from a Manchester library. Utility letter required to prove your address (anywhere in the UK allowed)

Surrey - allow you to join on-line as an elibrary member, will email you a virtual library card. Anyone in the UK can join.

Essex - allow you to join on-line. Emails you a membership number immediately upon application. Anyone in the UK can join.

Oldham (near Greater Manchester) Joining criteria unclear from website.

Derby Local residents can join on-line. Work, study or visit can join at branch.

Herts On-line application.

Aberdeenshire Take proof of your name and address, such as a driving licence or utilities bill to one of our libraries and complete a registration form.

Norfolk Need to be based in area to join (work, live or study).

Warwickshire Need to be based in the area to join (work, live or study)

Wokingham Not an Over-drive service. Stock unknown. See site for details.

For some reason I don't understand UK libraries don't make much of a fuss when they start their digital libraries so its easy to miss new additions. If anyone else knows of any others then please reply to this thread as and when you find them.

Newcastle upon Tyne libraries can now be added to the list: http://newcastle.lib.overdrive.com/ I've added them to the Wiki list.

The selection of titles appears to be very similar to the Essex one. However the Newcastle site makes it explicit that you don't have to be a local resident to join. We're a very friendly lot up here in Geordieland

Interestingly, the neighbouring council in North Tyneside (where I live) lets you borrow audiobooks but not e-books. Different supplier I suppose.

I've updated for May 2011 today but have a question...........

I know that the US 'library' thread is very popular. I'm not so sure that the same is true of this UK thread. Would readers want me to continue updating?
If there isn't much demand, of if anyone else would rather do the work I'll let it fall down the board.
