I don't have a VPN so I can't see if that's the problem, i mean IP blocked by google. I will try again regularly and see if the situation changes.

If you have other ideas, I'll stay tuned in any case!

Some problem here.

As of today, no more Google images for me aswell.

Also happens at a friend with a different ISP who never used calibre or google images before. So IP blocking should be ruled out.

Looks like an internal Google thing.

I live in Germany and just tested with a VPN.

And it looks like other countries are working perfectly fine. But as soon as I get a german IP again, Google Images no longer work.

Well, when I open the log after downloading metadata, I see the search string that the Google Images Plugin uses to download covers. When I enter this exact string manually in the browser, everything works as supposed. Just not within Calibre.

google will have temporarily blocked your ip address for too many requests. just wait 24 hrs and you should be fine. And yes the block will not apply to a browser because its not a simple ip alone block.

Having this problem since two weeks now.

I also tested this on a pc within my family. Different ISP, never used Calibre before and unfortunately the same problem.

So, that should rule out an IP block.

It already uses randomnly selected real browser user agents.

More that I was thinking that if you could force calibre to use an user specified user agent. Say, you are using Firefox and it downloads the covers, try that user agent string in calibre to see if it works there as well.

What a surprise today when I installed caliber version 7.0 and saw that the problem is fixed. I just read the patch notes which explain what the problem was.

Hello, I haven't been able to download covers using Google Images for over two weeks. I even tried the new, portable version of Caliber - also using VPN from different parts of the world.
Could you please help me?

That's the problem. You are using caliber and not calibre.

I don't know why you are unable to download covers from Google. But you can install the Kobo Metadata plugin to be able to download covers from Kobo. You can configure which country you want the covers from. You do not need to own/use a Kobo to use this.

Oh, there's a small mistake.

Unfortunately, the Kobo plugin does not find suitable covers in my language - Polish. I tested 10 items and each time it shows the wrong covers.

Also happens at a friend with a different ISP who never used calibre or google images before. So IP blocking should be ruled out. Looks like an internal Google thing.

When I enter this exact string manually in the browser, everything works as supposed. Just not within Calibre.

And yes the block will not apply to a browser because its not a simple ip alone block.

Say, you are using Firefox and it downloads the covers, try that user agent string in calibre to see if it works there as well.
