Could somebody who has this running provide me with a sample of .metadata.json containing the data for one or two books, and the sample books. I guess this is enough to run plato, without having to do all the stuff that requires a pc with the appropriate tools. Right? I would like to prepare integration into KSM.

Is there anything known about backward compatibility regarding models and/ or firmwares?

Thank you.

I've just released 0.2.0: the existence of a database is no longer assumed. (If it's missing, a quick import will occur on the fly.)

Regarding the firmware requirements: it works on 4.7.10413.

Things I noticed while trying out v0.2.0:

1. After starting Plato seemingly nothing happens but it draws a row of the file selector after tapping it in that row. Missing screen refresh?

2. The display is rotated (lines go from top to bottom).

3. The user inteface input positions aren't rotated. UI comes up by tapping the top of the device, to activate the menu on the user interface I had to tap at the unrotated position (top right corner of the device, while the hamburger menu is at the bottom right corner). Same for page turning.

Maybe you could make a video of this?

Did you mean bottom to top?

What's the output of grep resolution SD_ROOT/.adds/plato/crash.log?

I see the same problem as TnS. On my two Kobo Touchs.
When setting
Code:
echo "3" > /sys/class/graphics/fb0/rotate
before starting plato, the rotation is correct. Works nice on my KT running FW4.6.9995. Does not work on my other KT running FW 2.6.1 or so, even though the orientation is now correct.

EDIT: After playing a little bit with plato, I am very impressed. Even Devanagari-fonts (for Hindi and Sanskrit) are displayed correctly in epubs. I did not check whether the latest Koreader versions are also able to do this now.

It's a Kobo Aura One, firmware 4.6.9995. I don't know if it matters but I'm starting Plato from Kobo Start Menu instead of Nickel.

I can't make a video but tshering's rotation fix fixes the file selector too. But KSM gets totally confused after exiting from Plato.

Tried with v0.2.0. My observations on a Kobo Glo HD running firmware 4.7.10413:

a) plato.sh installed in KSM's fmon directory (/adds/kbmenu/fmonsh/)
If I open the plato.png in nickel, nickel is closed and I'm back in KSM after a moment (not sure if plato crashes or not since I see some flashing).

I've attached the crash.log (it seems my settings.json with
Code:
{ "libraryPath": "/mnt/onboard/.misc" }
is ignored?):

Plato is running on a Kobo Glo HD.
The framebuffer resolution is 1448 by 1072.

b) from KSM I run a user script that just executes plato.sh in /mnt/onboard/.adds/plato
Plato starts and automatically opens an ebook (couldn't choose the book but that could be due to a missing screen refresh). However, the view is rotated by 90° - the top is displayed on the right - but not the touchscreen. I have to click on the back button (top left if I hold the Kobo in landscape orientation so I can read the text) to activate the menu(?) button on the top right. I'm able to use the slider at the bottom when I click on "Quit"...

I've attached the corresponding crash.log:

Two points:
  • Please do not start Plato from KSM via fmon!
  • When starting Plato from KSM, one has first to set the rotation value that is needed by Plato before starting Plato, and after exiting Plato, one has to reset the rotation value needed by KSM.

If you like you can try to start Plato from KSM with this script, from the script folder (not via fmon). I think this might work for Glo HD and Aura One. Though, I am not completely sure, whether I got the rotation values correct.

If I open the plato.png in nickel, nickel is closed and I'm back in KSM after a moment (not sure if plato crashes or not since I see some flashing).
crash.log might be helpful here.

If it was, it would appear in crash.log.

The library path should be the path of the directory that holds your documents.

The DB is a file within that directory, with the following file name: .metadata.json.

I guess that width > height is a good indication that the framebuffer needs to be rotated.

It's the correct rotation for the Kobo Glo HD.

It's in the spoiler, isn't it?

I assumed it was ignored in case a) because plato was first looking into /mnt/onboard/.adds instead of /mnt/onboard/.misc as configured in settings.json.

Yes, that's .misc.

I was looking into the .misc directory where I expected the db due to settings.json instead of /mnt/onboard where it was saved by plato. Sorry.
