Xochipilli2012 said it pretty good
Sleek and Clean vs slightly crowded. Example Pez Starts by showing a title with a big blob icon and then the button Number. Lbook puts a smaller Book Type Icon on the far right with the file size below. IMHO adding the Spiral notebook background is NOT a step forward. The previous menu was even cleaner with a similar layout. Some of it is just trying the other guys way ( Have you even tried the Lbook FW?). I finally found out what that was on the "About (when reading a book) page" It is an overly stylized i Deleting and Moving files is something I talked about to Amy and Jason, way back in November (when I exchanged my peeler with a bad USB connector.) LBook does not offer all the cool colors the Astak does. Last edited by theducks; 04-20-2010 at 08:15 PM. |

I have to agree the Lbook firmware has it going on.
It got me to using my pocket pro again! |

That's not true. Software can make it faster or slower, depending on how it is written. Things I like, so far, in lbook - general look and feel is better (don't discount this, appearance is a huge factor - ask any marketer) - the ability to delete books when read - it has been easier to get fonts and fonts sizes to where I enjoy reading - faster and more reliable response to button clicks |

Does anyone by chance have any pictures of the Pocket Pro with this firmware, to see how it looks?

I haven't checked lately but does the lBook have TTS. Not all firmware has it.

The lBook has some of the features I have been requesting but not all of them. There is still room for better but the lBook typically gets features before the other versions do.
Nice list of differences by the way. Dale |

As others have mentioned, it can do no harm to just try it and see. |

First of all thanks for this warm approach; because as far as I can see there are many home made firmwares for all kinds of electronic devices around and yet I never saw a manufacturer directly asking the customers "Hey, why do you install the custom firmwares?" For information, I generally update my media player at home and pocket pc with custom firmwares mainly because the standart firmwares (correctly) targets the average customer, but advanced customers like me and many people around here just don't want to accept the given firmware and improve the device as far as possible. It's a habit first of all. I think that people like me (power users we can say) like to customise electronical devices a lot. For our specific case; many people here believe that EZReader is a great e-reader; however these devices are valuable as whole along with software and hardware. Many users here for example keep requesting basic features like changing font types and sizes easily on the fly; but we could not get this option for months now. In addition to this, the engineers in the factory are not doing a good job, as many of us believe. On the other hand, many of us suddenly saw that CoolReader is what we are looking for; it has so many options to customize the device and this is the main reason I believe. Second reason is that, it's been updated regularly and getting better; I think it will be far better in next weeks. These are my two cents over the subject. I am sure we would not leave our own firmware if we could get the same benefits from this new one. Regards. Last edited by aegeus; 04-21-2010 at 09:25 AM. |

Thanks for the heads up Dave_S.
The unpacked file has a modification date of 4/21. Great, no more out-dated 3/15 file in a 4/19 folder! The About from menu>option now shows battery state etc. Perhaps it did also in the 3/30 Lbook firmware, but I never checked then. No problems so far. Quote:
