I would like for Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie to be the one to read for the bookclub. For some reason I didn't read it as yet.

Wow. Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses came from a very slow start (2nd to last), to take a fairly commanding lead at this point.

Hello from South Australia, towards the end of our holiday. Sorry I missed the nominations, but managed to get onto the Internet in time to vote!

I didn't vote for Satanic Verses but I will surely read it if it wins.

So The Satanic Verses wins!
I have this one on my bookshelf so it's only a bit of a stretch (literally) to read it. |

I'm glad 'Satanic Verses' won, it's been on my reading list for some time now. I'm looking forward to getting my teeth into it.

The club continues its proud tradition of choosing books of a marathon length, so get cracking so we'll all be on the same page for the discussion of Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses on September the 20th.

Darned library! Their only copy of The Satanic Verses is out on loan, so I have ordered it and will just have to read as fast as I can when I get it.

Finally kicked off my reading. As I've come to expect with Rushdie, the writing is whimsical and entertaining. Looking forward to discussing it after I've finished.

"Whimsical." A very good adjective to use in connection with the book.

And now, I'm thinking Hitchhikers...
"The trouble began when the computer Hactar launched a fake spaceship to crash-land on Krikkit, suddenly alerting the inhabitants thereof to the possibility of life beyond their sphere. Within a year they had stripped every tiniest last secret out of its wreckage and constructed their own spaceship, Krikkit One, which they used to view the outside Universe for the first time. Unable to reconcile its existence with their traditional worldview, they transformed overnight from charming, delightful, intelligent, if whimsical, ordinary people, into charming, delightful, intelligent, whimsical, manic xenophobes. And so, charmingly, delightfully, intelligently, whimsically, they decided to destroy it." - talking about the inhabitants of Krikkit from Alien Encyclopedia |
