Never, apart from primary school reading lessons and secondary school English Literature when we were doing Shakespeare or poetry.
I read to relax not to distract myself - I have other ways of doing that. It's part of the reason I don't do audiobooks; when I'm doing a task (e.g. driving), I want to focus on that not on another task as well. |

Actually, yes I do periodically and voice atrophy and diction is the reason. As you lose hearing, your diction often suffers so people don't understand you. So, I read to my cats for 15 minutes a day a few times a month after doing my tongue twisters. I should do it more often, but this helped dramatically as everybody stopped saying 'what?' There are a lot of helps on youtube for this.
FWIW, I had a bad lisp as a kid and this actor goes through all the same training that I did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sQoYa8TptI Last edited by Tarana; 04-12-2024 at 04:03 PM. |

I saw this article a few days ago. Interesting we should all be reading out loud.

I read "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" to my kids, mainly in the car as hubby drove. Now most of my reading aloud is short books or stories at the elementary school where I work. Or reading aloud a news article to my husband.
