It's the "Edit Options" link in your User CP (under Settings & Options). Then under "Messaging & Notifications", you'll find the option to save PMs sent.

Aha, but that did not look at all as the image Elsi posted. I could not find a menu looking as the image. If this menu is only available for moderators I think they should log in as an ordinary user to get images.

The image that Elsi posted is just the group of options at the bottom of the "Write a new Private Message" screen. I'm pretty sure that that's the same for mods as it is for everybody else.

It is "Send a Message". I missed that becasue i only looked at options in CP.

Sorry -- I went off to run errands. The image I posted comes from just under the text box where you type in your message -- less than 1/4 inch below the "Submit Message" and "Preview Message" buttons. I'm pretty sure that this isn't a Moderator-only option, but you make a good point that if there's any question, us we Moderators should make sure to log in using an ID that has no additional privileges.
