I got it free from Apple sometime a year or so ago.. Haha. I bought it again yesterday though for the Fire.
http://www.spotify.com/us/ Spotify is a music app that just came out for the US a few months ago. I had my account since it opened though. Basically a streaming service. The app cuts at the bottom though, so you can't control the music. . |

One thing I have noticed about the Amazon App Store is that it is reporting a lot of Apps Not Compatible with the Fire, even when they are. Opera Mini Browser is one example.
Great Paid Apps from the Amazon App Store: Mantano Reader Office Suite Pro Dead Space The Secret of Grisly Manor Wolfram Alpha Free Apps: There are plenty of Android Apps on the Internet. Many are FREE (my favorite kind). You can download Apps for the Kindle Fire outside of the Amazon Store. To install Apps outside of the Amazon Store you have to set it up on your Fire. Touch Quick Settings, More, Device, and enable Allow Installation of Applications from Unknown Sources. When downloading Apps outside of the Amazon App Store, you will see a small pop-up in the Notification Area of the Status Bar at the Top of the Fire. If you touch the Notification you will see the download in progress. After the download is complete, touch it to launch the App installation package. A quick note about downloaded Apps. I highly recommend you download ES File Explorer from Amazon. When you download Apps outside of the Amazon Store these downloads will be stored on your Fire and can eat up valuable storage. When you launch ES File Explorer you will find a Folder called download. If you touch the Folder you will see all downloaded Apps. You can choose to keep these as backup if desired. Once the App is installed you do NOT need to keep the Install Package. To delete a downloaded App after it is installed, LONG press (press and hold) the downloaded App you want delete and a pop-up menu should appear which will allow you to delete it. With the exception of the Apps referenced to the Amazon Store, you can download these Apps via PC and transfer them to your Fire using your USB cable, but I ask, why would you want to do that when you can transfer them wireless using WiFi File Explorer which you will find under Utilities at the bottom of this post? You can then use ES File Explorer to launch the App installation package. The nice thing about WiFi Explorer is that it allows you to create folders, transfer and delete files using a Web Browser on a PC connected to a wireless network. I spent several hours briefly testing all of these Apps. If you run into any problems with any of these hyperlinks (I tested them and they should all be valid) or a problem with any of the Apps please let me know. This App requires that you are connected to a wireless network. When you enter the File Explorer Web URL address into a browser on your PC you are looking at your Fire's Directory Structure. Real simple to use. Make sure you enter the ENTIRE address in your web browser as it appears in the File Explorer Web URL. For example: 192.168.1.47:8000 Note: You have to Exit the App once you are done using it otherwise it could interfere with screen saving etc. (Options Bar --> MENU --> Exit). More specifically from the App description: PowerManager WakeLocks to keep processor from sleeping or screen from dimming. http://download.pandaapp.com/android....3-id4561.html Amazon offers a newer version of this App for a whopping 99 cents as of this posting. Trust me, this is one App you will want to have. http://www.amazon.com/Dooblou-WiFi-F...1641082&sr=1-1 Enjoy ! Last edited by obsessed2; 03-06-2012 at 09:11 AM. |

I think that is Amazon's way of trying to discourage competition with their native apps. Thankfully we can still sideload these.

Yes! It also looks like B&N intentionally locked down their Nook Tablet to try to prevent rooting. I guess they were upset by the rooting of the NookColor. I'm happy Amazon is taking a much less aggressive stance. Basically they are just hiding apps rather than totally preventing them from being installed. We can live with that.

Here are mine:
Accuweather - I tested this and the Weather Channel app and liked this much better. I like how it puts the current temp in the notification bar and the app icon looks nice in the Carousel. Tapatalk - great forum app. Atari's Greatest Hits - The closest thing we are going to get to a time machine! Pulse - I love that this was a "core" app as it was one of my favorite and most used apps on both my phone and iPad. Sketchbook Mobile- Cool art app (FREE Today). I'm not an artist book it's so easy to use and has a good feature set. Also, not necessarily favorite apps, but I like how some apps aren't square or don't have the square background because they look even better in the Carousel (i.e. Accuweather, Solitaire, and Fandango). |

The KFire will natively display PDFs, though they are pretty bad and some of the formatting is missing. I'm not sure what app it uses, but it looks and acts like the Kindle app, so it probably is. There are many alternatives.

ezPDF is a good reader. I like Mantano Reader the best. It runs for $7.49 on the Amazon Store. An older and fully functioning version can be downloaded here: Mantano Reader: http://download.pandaapp.com/android....3-id4960.html |

That makes no sense, if that was true why is Pandora and Netflix allowed to have apps on it? Maybe the Opera Mini Browser doesn't work very well with it.
