EPUB3Reader (Android app)
This proof-of-concept Android app lets you easily read and navigate complex EPUB 2/3 eBooks (internal/external links, parallel texts). In the GitHub repo you can find the APK, the source code, screenshots and some EPUB eBooks with parallel texts. This is an academic project, under active (if slow) development at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Padova, Padova, Italy --- I co-mentor the students involved in the code development. Menestrello (Android/iOS app)
Menestrello is an iOS/Android app for enjoying EPUB 3 Audio-eBooks with Media Overlays, that is, with audio and text in sync. The app can be freely downloaded from the App Store and Google Play. Please visit the Menestrello Web page for a video introduction, screenshots, free demo EPUB 3 Audio-eBooks, and more. Note: this free app is being developed by ReadBeyond, Padova, Italy --- company which I co-own and for which I work. Web: https://readbeyond.it/menestrello/ MR Thread: existed in the "Reading and Management" section, but some overzealous mod deleted/moved it because of "self-promotion". I hope this post is ok. |

Writer2ePub
Writer2ePub is a free extension for OpenOffice/LibreOffice/NeoOffice that creates EPUB files from .odt files and all other text files readable by *Office suites.
It is not a file conversion utility, but a real EPUB development tool for Publishers and Self-Publishers. The goal of W2E is to create a ready-to-publish EPUB that needs no further editing at XHTML-CSS-XML level. Anyway, the generated code is very clear and easy-readable. Metadata and other settings are editable and stored inside the .odt document, making simple the correction and interchange of the source file, saving time and cost for eBook development. Version 1.x is downloadable from W2E site: http://writer2epub.it/en A version 2 is planned soon, with many improvements including EPUB3 output, editing window, source cleaning and correction tools and more. ink2fxl
ink2fxl converts Inkscape SVG files to XHTML+(SVG)+CSS, XHTML+raster (layer-wise), or raster-only (layer-wise).
ink2fxl is available as an Inkscape plugin, or as a stand alone Python script. This tool might help people "converting" Inkscape SVG drawings to EPUB3 Fixed Layout pages. The code is released under the MIT license and it can be downloaded by cloning the GitHub repo ( https://github.com/pettarin/ink2fxl ) or downloading the ZIP release ( https://github.com/pettarin/ink2fxl/releases ). Instructions and details on the project home page: https://github.com/pettarin/ink2fxl |

As suggested in this Kovid Goyal's thread:
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=103114 also ViM can be used to manipulate epubs. Just add Code:
au BufReadCmd *.epub call zip#Browse(expand("<amatch>")) You must have a "zip" program installed. ViM is here: http://www.vim.org/ HP |

dotEPUB Converts web pages to EPUBs. Neatly cuts out the fluff like images and links and stuff. Seems pretty intelligent at parsing web pages. A bit like Pocket but for EPUBs. |

Although the version number is small it is still a usable product. This converts Markdown files into an EPUB2 file. Make a .BLD file to define all the Markdown .MD files in your book. It also supports CSS style sheets. You will need:
