ePub is HTML inside. So basically in majority of the cases it would be enough to just 'unzip <file>.epub' into an empty directory and check out the contents of OEBPS directory.

The latest mobigen (Windows or Linux) and Windows Mobipocket Reader will import ePub and output MOBI. This does not always work well, and it does not currently convert the toc.ncx to a usable TOC, but it is worth trying.

Thanks, wallcraft, & everyone else. I wasn't aware that Mobipocket Reader would "output" anything. Thought it just allowed you to read. I'll check it out.

Mobipocket Reader for the PC V 6.2 can import ePub non protected eBooks into Mobipocket eBooks.
The test I have made between a Feedbook’s ePub eBook converted this way and the same eBook in Feebook but in Mobipocket format and, the result was they looked very similar. One thing do, images in colour where converted to black and white. PS: sorry I posted the answer after just reading the first page of messages, my apology for repeating the answer. Try Calibre's epub2lrf to format shift an ePub eBook without DRM.

The HTML->LRF engine has a few issues but it isn't that bad .

Oh, that was a joke based on the typo in "shift" you originally had there. To answer the question seriously anyway, I don't know -- fixing most of the specific outstanding issues I know of would mean replacing most of the HTML->LRF rendering engine with something which actually groks the CSS inheritance rules and HTML block model. Now that the 505 has native HTML support via EPUB I'm not sure it's worth it.
