Same here. Also one office max i called said the nook hd is on discontinued status on their computers. So no big surprise there. kinda glad though i didnt get one. I still would have had to spend 150 bucks and get 50 bucks for store credit. I would rather get a refurb for 100. Hopefully i eventually can. Its for my girlfriend and she is not too particular.

Tony, I believe we will see the prices on NEW ones drop that low, if we are patient. I want the 16gb one, so it will hold lots of games. (My daughter is constantly running out of room on her 8gb tablet). As soon as it drops at least another $20, I'm buying.

Well I ordered a used one from ebay. Only 8 GB but it will do for now.

edit-except I probably made a mistake, as it's a store display. Trying to contact the seller.

I broke down and bought one at a BN store. HD 16gb Snow. Getting ready to open it in a sec.

Wow. Love it. I've been reading on it and it is super nice. I still need to compare it side by side with my Fire HD but I think I like the Nook HD better.

Anyone that got the OM gift card - it was pointed out in the slickdeals thread that you can use it to buy a $50 Amazon GC without any fees. Went in and swapped mine. Amazon GCs are almost as good as money for me and a lot more appealing than an OM gift card.

Wow, you lucked out. Both OfficeMax stores I went to flat out refused allowing their GC to be used to buy any other GC in their store, such as Amazon's.

Luckily the clerk at the second OM store I went to rang up the 8gb HD at $79 and no GC, and not $129 and a GC like at the first OM store Also, that second OM was ringing up the 16gb HD+ at $99 (not $149 and GC) and a co-worker bought one of each.
