Also for those interest in Terry Brooks, he has a new book coming out next week (August 24): Bearers of the Black Staff: Legends of Shannara.

It's run by Joe Buckley. Weber was the first to kill him off in the worst possible way in the Honor universe. Then a number of authors killed him in the most embarrassing ways they could think of. (Or made him into a paranoid PDA AI.) Although, he did live in the Boundary series.

Then I believe Ringo used Joe in the Aldenata series. Joe was the guy playing with the grenade (or whatever) and blew his hand off in the first book. Joe came back in the second book, I believe, trapped under rubble. I think that time, he got his arm blown or cut off. In the third book, Joe did a crazy solo attack and got shot in the butt. I think he died that time. It's been awhile since I've read the books. Later on, Julie Cochran used Joe as the basis for the PDA AIs. They're super paranoid and need to be reinstalled often. Eric Flint used Joe in the 1632 universe as a reporter or some kind of paparazzi. He was murdered by some kind of painful poison, I think. In the Boundary universe, Eric and Ryk made Joe a main character and I believe Joe experienced MANY awful accidents. I haven't read the series, so I don't know what Eric and Ryk did to Joe. There might have been other authors who did stuff to Joe, but I can't remember or never read them. P.S. The last I heard, Joe does not work for Baen. I'm chugging my way through the Honor Harrington series as well. I read a lot of them a few years ago, but was burnt-out by the time I reached Eric Flint's spin-offs. I have vague memories of Crown of Slaves... looking forward to reaching it.
(Really noticing the poor quality of the plots and prose this time round. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the HH books, but after a steady diet of Lois McMaster Bujold recently, the contrast is noticeable Someone asked me what I was reading at the moment, and I tried describing the series to them... I settled on saying they're like Pringles. No nutritional value, but you just can't close the damn pack ) |

When I say that the publisher has my phone number and she's not afraid to use it, I'm being completely serious. I run into her at cons a couple times a year, too. Also... when you wind up buying a copy from the Webscriptions site, you are granted access to a copy of any bind-in CD's ISO, so you should be able to download a copy of the CD that way, as well. -JPB |

No relationship to any Baen authors... that I know of. (They'd have to be really distantly related to be so.) |
