Adding Noto fonts to Kobo. (Sage, but probably doesn't matter)

Looking in fontforge, looks like I do not in fact need spaces. OK then.

for the "weight" bit mentioned in the link, noto sans symbol 2 (for example) has "any". Since that is not "Book", I need to change it?

Yes, change it to Book.

What second attached image?

So, so many errors about self-intersection missing points at extrema, anchor points for some but not all classes in a subtable. And warning about some number being 1000, not a power of 2. And some with "wrong direction". I'll ignore all these and see what happens.

Thanks. I had "validate before saving" enabled since it was on to start with and I decided not to touch anything I hadn't explicitly been told to touch.

Ok. Why I am actually doing this? With publisher defaults, and even with stix text, I get this in a book purchased from the Kobo store:

http://www.ghira.mistral.co.uk/missingsymbol1.jpg with a rectangle or a rectangle with a question mark in it at the beginning of line 4.

With noto I get this: http://www.ghira.mistral.co.uk/missingsymbol2.jpg but it looks to me like the whole thing has come out bold. If I use noto in other books it looks normal so at this point I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if the book is defective. You would think with publisher default that symbol should show up, no? Maybe that's optimistic.

It's the only font I've found with that weirdness. Definitely a WTF? moment.
