Most of those books I bought were not ones I had to wade through the blurb. There were books by authors I read or books I wanted to read so no need to read the blurb.

I know that feeling! I hear a book being mentioned on the CBC, head to Libby and see I'm 503rd on the queue. When my turn arrives it's.... why did I place that hold!

The last time that happened to me after the nice surprise when I got the notification, I found the book had expired it's maximum loans and I had to wait for them to order a new copy.

I imagine the 504th person on the list was nicely surprised to get it early, assuming you passed it on.

When you put a hold on the same book at multiple libraries and you've downloaded it more then once.

Given how expensive ebooks are for libraries and that these days they're mostly expiring licenses (i.e., you just wasted a borrow), it seems to me that you should try really, really hard to avoid doing this.

Soapboxing a bit here, but I'm trying to be more judicious in my borrows, given how expensive they are for libraries and that I've got such a large TBR anyway. It's a win/win for me, as library borrows which might have been a passing fancy when I read a review or saw a mention push TBRs down my list because of due dates.

Bladed weapons do not have handles: swords and daggers have hilts, spears and polearms have shafts.

Describing a sword using the word handle makes me visualise the protagonist wielding an over-sized kitchen knife...

This seems to have appeared in the past couple of years. It completely kills the story for me.

A knife does have a handle.

I didn't see a contradiction. The meaning was clear and related to swords in a particular instance. Playing one-upmanship served no point. Why belittle someone over what was a trifle at most?

It's she, actually.

Call me pedantic, but to me handles are found on kitchen knives and cutlery not bladed weapons like swords and daggers. I used the word 'weapons' not generic cutting tools. Yes, any cutting tool can be used as a weapon, but I am decrying the usage for cutting tools specifically designed as weapons.

I very much suspect there's an autocorrect or editorial thing going on here, probably with N American authors (probably female authors at that).

But some Kitchen Knives/cutlery can be very sharp and easily be used as a weapon. They have handles.

What would you say if an author used knife and handle but did not say what type of knife?
