Does anyone know how long it takes from the time you order the Reader to the time it's delivered? Do they give you a shipping confirmation and tracking number? Do they ship USPS, UPS, or Fedex? I pray it's not Fedex. I haven't heard anything from Sony since I got my order confirmation two days ago.

it took me a little more than 2 weeks before I got the order shipped e-mail from Sony, and the reader arrived the next day.

Good luck

I ordered my Reader on Aug. 2, and mine hasn't shipped yet. My credit card hasn't been charged, and my points are still "on hold" on the Sony Rewards site. When I called, I was told that the Readers are on backorder (at least from Sony Rewards), and they wouldn't ship out for another 2 weeks or so (this was Monday or Tuesday of this week). So I'm thinking there will be a mass shipment right after Labor Day. But I'm hopeful that they were overestimating and that the Readers will be in the mail soon!!

The readers are on backorder? Would have been nice for Sony to mention that on their website. Hopefully though this means we'll be getting the newest ones and not refurbs or old stock. Maybe it may even have the latest firmware? Can you do firmware updates on a Mac or do you need Sonys Connect for that?

Not so strange. Someone the size of Fictionwise could have found this forum and libprs500, made the decision, and started the process inside of a few weeks. In that same amount of time, a company like Sony might have managed to schedule the first meeting to discuss possible meeting times for setting the guidelines needed to assemble the appropriate team to begin the process of defining the needs for developing the gameplan to start analyzing the possibility of broadening the list of titles.

Inertia sucks.

LOL!!! That is so true. I work for a large corporation and I know just what you mean. I don't want to mention the name of it, lets just say it's A Telephone & Telecommunication company... I have personally witnessed those meetings- conference calls where it takes 20 managers in 3 states to figure out how to "streamline" a process so it now takes three times as long to acomplish the same thing.

You could be describing the company I work for (a large Japanese corporation) . I think that the "wheels grind exceedingly slowly" in any large organisation.

Sony delivers via UPS, and they provide an email shipping confirmation but no tracking number. Customer service can't provide you the tracking number either .

I think a bunch of folks from here e-mailed them several months ago asking about a Sony format too (if I recall correctly), that might be what got them looking this direction.

If that is what started the ball rolling, it's even better news. It would be further evidence that a concerned, knowledgeable user community can influence the course of the e-book marketplace, instead of just getting dragged along.

Keep nudging.

I don't know that it was what got them off the dime, but I'm pretty sure that we sent them a bunch of e-mails. We e-mailed several different businesses about various things around the same time.

How long did it take folks to hear on their approval for the Sony card?

I applied for mine Jul 30th, got it in the mail Aug 20th. So three weeks. They never sent me an e-mail saying it was approved before they sent the card, but you could call them to find out if they approved it.

They should send out an email if you're approved, but by no means would I wait for that. I got my card on -- well -- I forgot when -- the same day that I ordered the Reader, but I didn't get my email until this past Thursday.

Definitely give them a call, they should be able to tell you whether you're approved or not so you're not sitting on pins and needles.

Called to get a status on my reader, was told that the warehouse was expecting a shipment today or tomorrow and that all orders would be fulfilled by September 10th.

Rep was very apologetic, and told me that the majority of his calls today were about the reader. Guess it's getting some traction
