Thanks, DNSB, this is definitely interesting. With my Win10 22H2 19045.4412:

(1) Clicking on the .tar.xz does nothing. According to
Quote:
this site
, Win10's explorer can only extract .zip files. A right click doesn't get me an "extract all", but in the "open with" it suggests the Raspberry Pi Imager (an artifact of my past .xz usage).

(2) using 7-zip 9.22 beta, I opened the .xz -- and got exactly the same results you did. There was the .tgz file large as life. (Incidentally, I see that 7-zip is up to v24.06, so it's time for me to upgrade)

Ha! My problem was that I extracted the .xz instead of opening it. Trying again, it seems that extracting the .xz gives me the .tar. Extracting the tar gives me a message wanting to know if I wish to replace an one file with another. In retrospect, I should have paid more attention to this, as this sort of thing is never a good sign. Answering yes or no gives me the extracted contents of the .tgz

I learned something from this. Thank you for your time and effort.

Hi,

Does this plugin support the latest Kobo models, such as the Clara BW?

I followed the instructions, but I am getting the error message "[FBInk] Unidentified Kobo device code (390)."

And, also, the bundled binaries are currently slightly outdated, so you'll want to build fbink yourself until I manage to update all of this.

Thanks for the information. I've successfully built FBInk, but I have another question.
How can I upgrade py-fbink? There don't seem to be any build instructions on GitHub.

It's a "bit" of a PITA.

c.f., https://github.com/NiLuJe/FBInk/blob...i/fbink_decl.c (which isn't entirely up-to-date)

Then mangle the output from ffi-cdecl into py-fbink's build.py, then build that in a cross-aware fashion (I'm using a patched distutilscross, because upstream is dead; but crossenv should work).

I... wouldn't recommend attempting any of that unless you already have experience cross-compiling Python 3 modules, because it's an hilariously awful experience.

Newbie question:

  • How do you open this tools? For example, I want to open a shell.

Device: Kobo Clara Colour
Firm: 4.39.23027
KFMon: 1.4.6-66
Kor: v2024.07
Plato: 0.9.43 (but not working on this device)

KoboStuff has been installed next to those. V. 1.6.N-r18901

Please, help me to understand how to "launch", "call", "open", the KoboStuff binaries.

(I can test packages and developments in this Clara Colour model, by the way .... it seems to be 'not compatible' with almost every stuff created)

Hi there,
I've installed the package properly, everything is located in /mnt/onboard/.niluje subfolders as needed. Everything has proper permissions, including x for Execute.

However, when connected over telnet, every single application says:
-sh: $command not found.

Happens with say, curl, fbink, sshd...

Utterly confused and sadly there seems to be a lack of information online.

---

Device: Kobo WiFi
Firmware: 1.9 (r25373, Mar 29 2011), rev 2001
Kobo stuff: kobo-stuff-1.6.N-r18901

My goal is to run YAWK but unfortunately I'm stuck being unable to run anything, thus unable to install python.

Note that I opened and managed everything on a Linux/Unix based system.

Thank you!!

While Kobo does use a Linux kernel, it does not include a full Linux environment. For instance the shell and many of the standard executables are implemented using busybox https://busybox.net/

Kobo only includes binaries / commands for what they need.

Additionally the Kobo Wifi is a very VERY old device using (in your case) f/w 1.9 from 2011. I'd normally suggest checking pgaskin's list of firmwares for an upgrade but I think you're SOL

Yeah, this depends on a glibc 2.15 & hardfloat userland.

I don't recall when that actually happened, so I can't vouch for 2.x, but 1.9 is quite likely out, yeah.

I'm fairly sure that this will *not* work on *really, really* old Kobo devices/firmwares:
basically, if your device is *not* running at least Linux 2.6.35.3 & a hardfp eglibc 2_15, don't use this.
TL;DR: It should work just fine for 99.9% of the population.
