I want to buy an ebook that's only available from Amazon, and I want to remove the DRM to side load it to my Kobo. I don't own a Kindle device. Back in 2020 I remember being able to do this by using the Windows Kindle app, Calibre, and Apprentice Harper's DeDRM tools. But that doesn't work any more. So I tried the following:
1. Downloaded the latest Kindle app (2.3.1 70682). 2. Downloaded the latest Calibre 3. Downloaded the latest DeDRM_Tools from https://github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools/ And that didn't work either. Is there a link documenting the steps I need to take? Do I need, perhaps, an older version of the Kindle app? I've kept version 1.26 but it didn't manage to login. Here's a copy of a post from another site in which the user successfully registered a Kindle Keyboard 3rd gen. Hope it helps someone.
1) to register https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...deId=201819620 2) check for the latest s/w version: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...MQC26VQQMM8XSW (hopefully that link will stay ok), 3) to manually update your s/w https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...AE5G5UGCYA25DW 4) if you have problems with the login read this: https://www.amazonforum.com/s/question/ ... e-keyboard 5) the hitch with the login and OTP (which I just tried on a lark because it occurred to me that I never did actively enable 2 step verification)... even if you have not enabled 2 step verification on your account, you will likely be sent an OTP. But it won't work to register your device until you enable 2 step verification.on your account. Stupid right? Cuz it does work when logging in on the web. Did the Customer service guy help? no. Claimed that there was a hardware fault, or that the Kindle Keyboard 3rd gen was no longer supported. 'tis a lie. So... TLDR: Just enable 2 step verification on your account and then when the kindle says it can't find and account associated with your email & <yourpassword> - you'll get an OTP (in whatever method you've set up) then (at least for me) enter <yourpassword>OTP (i.e if your password is ThisIsAP@1n! and the OTP sent is 123456 then enter ThisIsAP@1n!123456 in the password field. If that fails try just the OTP code in the password field. |

Kindle for PC version is now up to 2.4.x.
Does method described at the top of the post still work? |

Thank you! I have KfPC ver. 2.2 installed because that's what Pg. 1 of the thread says. I haven't gotten through the 150 other pages of the thread to see what was said about newer versions. Should I update to 2.4.0 now or am I good to work with 2.2? Also, I'm getting an error message trying to install DeDRM 10.0.9 into Calibre 7.17 and I posted that question in this thread ( https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=361503) and awaiting moderator approval to release the question and wait for a response. I apologize if I posted that in the wrong thread. I'm still trying to get my bearings in this forum. Last edited by Mike.Connors; 08-31-2024 at 11:49 PM. Reason: Improve clarity |

On my DeDrm plugin problem - do you think I need to go back to one of prior versions 10.0.3, 0.4, 0.5(s) or 0.6(s)? |
