Since the 27%-version is unfinished (no one updates it on a regular basis?) maybe this is not such a bad solution. Only it would have to be done by someone with authority in Transifex. |

In general, it is not clear why this is a duplication of languages (uk and uk_UA).
I don't think anyone will do the same job twice. Therefore, one file was started and abandoned, and everyone switched to another, where there were more translations. |

We (Sigil) have no control over the choice of languages and their region specific variations on Transifex.
When both exist, we choose the one with the most complete translation (that meets the minimum of 70% - 75% of the translation complete). If both exist and are duplicates (or nearly so) we use the broader language only (no region) version. That said, once we get the Transifex .ts files into Sigil, we could in theory adjust them to be just language only (ie take "uk_UA" and make it "uk") before making our release builds. Would that help? KevinH |

I'm not at all opposed, but it WILL be a manual process to be remembered for every release. We also might want to consider renaming it in the source tree unless we want to remember to keep changing it back (or risk making pointless rename commits to the tree over and over again).
EDIT: Nevermind. We can't rename the .ts file in the source tree since that's what's uploaded to Transifex. We'd just need to rename the .ts file before the .qm file is generated, and then rename it back before the next commit. Last edited by DiapDealer; 07-13-2023 at 03:23 PM. |

I already have to rename many of the ts files downloaded from Transifex to be used in PageEdit. Renaming one for Sigil before committing it should be no biggie.
He said hopefully! |

Is it as simple as renaming the ts file? There is a language identifier in the xml content of the ts file I expect would need to be changed as well, no?

Inside XML (TS) file is full language <TS version="2.1" language="uk_UA"> and we are not changing that.
However, Sigil's mechanisms recognize by file name, so changing the file name should be enough. |

Sigil, yes. But I'm wondering about Qt itself. With lconvert and then QTranslator trying to use both Sigil_uk.qm and and qtbase_uk.qm when there are mismatched full language identifiers inside. It may work just fine. I'm no expert in this regard. Just trying to dot all the Is and cross the all the Ts.

Hello.
For a temporary solution to the problem, I place the file qtbase_uk_UA.qm Just put it in "C:\Program Files\Sigil\translations\" directory. |

So what was the final conclusion from the discussion here?
For the upcoming release, should I rename the uk_UA ts file to just be just uk or are people in Ukraine going to use User_Z's qtbase_uk_UA.qm file and just add it to their own builds, or what? ... I need to know what people want before the next release which will hopefully happen sometime in early to mid August depending on schedules. Last edited by KevinH; 07-18-2023 at 12:23 PM. |

I my opinion – yes. Rename uk_UA ts file to uk should be OK.
A later check that the correct qtbase_uk file exists should add the appropriate file and everything should "play". What do you think @User_Z? |

Hello.
It looks like we're thinking for three. I think the file needs to be renamed. Leave one file for the main language. Delete everything else. The most important thing is that the translations do not disappear (make a backup copy, just in case). Am sure that correct and high-quality translation is important for users, and not how many files are on Transifex. |

To be clear ... I have *no* control or ability to change any files on Transifex itself. Only the team of translators with access to that language do.
I can just download the latest uk_UA ts file from Transifex and rename it just before committing it to Sigil master for use in Release builds. That is what I am asking if you want me to do that. To change things on Transifex you would have to identify the team leader for that language and contact him or her directly and ask. |

Alternatively, I do have the ability to approve new translators for Sigil transifex projects who apply on Transifex. That person could easily make the uk_UA and uk ts files match. Sigil would then default to using the uk only file if both are equal.
