And yet again, the page numbers are still wrong. Are they ever going to be fixed?

BookFusion iOS 1.31.3 – Auto-Scroll , Apple Pencil Improvements & More

Auto-scroll

Auto-scroll is now here! The auto-scroll feature is designed to enhance the reading experience for EPUBs, PDFs, and Comics. It intelligently scrolls the page according to the reading pace you set, ensuring a seamless and hands-free experience.

To enable this go to Settings -> Auto-Scroll

It might not be immediately apparent but auto-scroll has the following main benefits:
  • Hands-Free Reading: The biggest advantage is that auto-scroll allows readers to enjoy a book without having to manually turn pages or swiping the screen. This especially useful for those who are eating, playing an instrument or engaged in any activity that occupies their hands.
  • Consistent Reading Pace: It promotes a consistent reading pace, which can be beneficial for readers who are practicing speed reading or who want to maintain a steady reading speed.
  • Accessibility: For individuals with disabilities that limit manual dexterity, such as arthritis, carpal tunnel or hand tremors & others, auto-scroll makes reading more accessible and less physically demanding.

Apple Pencil Improvements
  • Use Apple Pencil along the edges of the page in scroll mode to move the page forward and backwards
  • Automatically merge highlights when conjoin using Apple Pencil
  • Expand highlight to word boundaries when highlight was created with Apple Pencil
  • Previously implemented, you can use your Apple Pencil to write notes when you make a highlight

Fixes
  • Stricter gesture detection for brightness adjustments to prevent conflicts
  • Solid backgrounds on the interface and highlights page . This increases readability of text when compared to blur used previously.
  • Fix context menu position in vertical writing books. This sometimes could show under overlay controls
  • Better handling of epub books with invalid xhtml chapters
  • Fixed crash when reading position pointed to removed chapter. This happens when users update books via Calibre plugin
  • Fixed reading position in RTL EPUB books

I'm intrigued by the TTS for Hindi, and might like to try it out. Your website repeatedly says "read on any device", but I can't find instructions for how to install on the only devices I use for reading, my Kobo Sage and Kobo H2O?

BookFusion is a mobile app, so you need Android or iOS to install it, unless you use the website. I doubt the Kobo browser is sophisticated enough to run the web version, though.

Thanks. So it turns out that "any device" is only true for a specific value of "any"

A Kobo reader doesn't even have apps, so it ought to be self evident that it's not a supported device. A flip phone is also a "device" but certainly won't work with BookFusion, either.

When you land on the homepage, the phrase "read on any device" is very prominent, and is repeated when you click for more info. KOReader runs on e-ink devices and LCD/OLED android devices installed via APK, so I assumed that perhaps BookFusion was similar, that it could be installed on e-ink devices as well as on Android/iOS devices. So I think my disappointment at discovereing that "aNY' turned out NOT to mean "any" was understandable

Also, fwiw, there are MANY very modern flip phones (somer even have "flip" in their name) capable of running apps.

Devices like Kindle or Kobo are considered closed ecosystems devices since. they do not provide an App Store. However, Kobo is the only exception since as you said it supports KOReader. We plan to build integration that allows syncing eBooks, highlights and reading position but this can come in many forms including a plugin for KOReader for example.

The full feature set of BookFusion might not be on these devices but syncing eBooks, highlights and reading position would be supported at a minimum. So not yet for Kobo but will have an update in the future.

BookFusion iOS 1.32.0 – EPUB Area/Image Highlights, Auto Dark/Light Theme in Reader &

EPUB Area/Image Highlights

We are thrilled to announce a significant enhancement to our iOS app – the introduction of Area/Image-Based Highlighting for both EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 formats. This update brings our iOS app in line with our Web app, offering a unified and enriched user experience.

What’s New:
  • Versatile Highlighting Options: Whether you wish to highlight an entire image or focus on a specific section, our new feature accommodates your needs. This flexibility is perfect for emphasizing key visuals or detailed parts of images in your EPUBs. This is useful for capturing graphs, tables, specification diagrams & more.
  • Offline and Online Accessibility: Enjoy the freedom to make highlights and annotations both offline and online. Whether you’re on the go without internet access or connected at home, your reading experience remains uninterrupted and fully functional.
  • Cross-Device Synchronization: Your area/image highlights and notes are automatically synced across all your devices. Start reading and annotating on your iOS device and seamlessly pick up where you left off on any other platform.

To start making area/image highlights when reading EPUBs:
  1. Long press on any image that you would like to highlight
  2. Click the area/image highlight icon (square icon) from the toolbar that pops up
  3. Select the entire image or a section of the image you would like to highlight. That’s it!

All area/image based highlights can now easily be created and synced between iOS and Web as well as being available for export. Support coming to Android soon.

Auto Dark/Light Theme in Reader

We are happy to Introduce the auto dark/light theme in the reader for your enhanced reading comfort.

Key Enhancements:

  • Automatic Synchronization with System Settings: The reader now intelligently matches your device’s system settings for dark and light modes, providing a consistent experience as you use your device.
  • End to Manual Switching: Say goodbye to the jarring experience of a bright screen in a dark room or the strain of a light theme in bright sunlight. The auto theme transition takes care of these adjustments for you, ensuring the display is always easy on your eyes.
  • Smooth and Unobtrusive Transitions: The shift between dark and light themes is designed to be fluid and unnoticeable, so your reading flow remains uninterrupted. You won’t even realize the change as it happens! Whether you’re reading in bed, commuting, or lounging outdoors, the reader adapts, allowing you to be completely immersed in what you read.

Disable Brightness Gestures

Brightness control via gestures have been released a few months now. However, there are cases when it would be better disabled for some segment of readers. To disable brightness gesture controls do the following:
  1. Go to Device Settings
  2. Select BookFusion
  3. Toggle Brightness Gesture Off

Improvements & Fixes

  • Empty page while auto-scrolling is being used sometimes.
  • Next page bleeds into the current page
  • Fix Palatino font
  • Fix table of contents performance in old iOS versions
  • Fix device rotation issue during auto-scroll
  • Fix when part of next page visible in page mode
  • Save reading position when using TTS in background
  • Fixed infinite loading in long chapters
  • Fixed location of bookmark during auto-scroll
  • Fixed crash when merging highlights with tags

The latest update can be found in the App Store at https://apps.apple.com/us/app/bookfusion/id1141834096 . Thanks again for all the support and please do continue to reach out to us with feedback and suggestions to help us build your ideal reading platform.

I set up a custom column in Calibre to show the BookFusion sync status according to this support page.

With this in the template field it'll show a yes or no if the book is synced with BookFusion
Code:
program: test(select(field('identifiers'),'bookfusion'),'Yes','No')
Is there a way for it show the date of last sync instead of a yes/no? I have my entire library synced now and it would be useful to tell when each book was last synced.

I have a large batch of stories that get updated at various intervals and it would be useful to be able to tell when the story was last synced compared to when I last updated the story.
