Err, just to double-check: you're using the "Update Your Kindle" menu entry in Settings, right?

That was the problem. I had used the ON/OFF button before to restart. I was not aware of the menu entry making a difference.

someone said in this thread that this kind of jailbreak wont work with .6 and it also doesnt work when you had previously installed the JB.
My question now is: many people said that this JB still works if you previously had JB installed and update to .5, so is there any hope that this JB will work if you had no JB and you are running .5 ?

If you had an existing jailbreak then you can restore it just fine on .6, or at least that's been my experience.

Either reapply JB/KUAL hotfixes through UYK or if that's greyed out then put them in the mrpackages folder and run ;log mrpi in the search. That's what worked for me

I just got a Kindle KT2, and I want to confirm something before I mess it up. Since the KT2's latest release is "5.12.2.1.1", is there any reason to stick to " 5.10.3" Instead? The kindle I got is running Firmware "5.6.1.0.2" so it seems I can pick any of the jail breakable firmwares I want.

The 5.11.x, 5.12x and 5.13x each get increasingly more hostile to the jailbreak.

You can pick any firmware <= 5.13.3, but you can't go back. I would say pick the lowest firmware that has every feature you need or want, but further suggest you try 5.10.3 and see if it works well for you. If not, you can always go to a higher version. I strongly advise against going any higher than 5.11.x, but there have been people happy with 5.12.x or even 5.13.x

I just found out that for the KT2, apparently there is a jailbreak for 5.6.5 that persists through updates? Am I better off going to 5.6.5, jailbreaking, then updating from there? Or does it stop persisting through a certain version?

Jailbreaks only persist after firmware updates if the hotfix has been installed. This applies to all jailbreaks. See the "Making sure your JB survives updates" section in the first post of the Open Sesame thread https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=320564

After an update, all applications, such as KUAL, have to be reinstalled.

If you would like to retain using kindlet KUAL instead of booklet KUAL (and some games), then do the 5.6.5 jailbreak, then do not update past 5.8.11

the problem is, that i do not have any jailbreak installed... i just figured out that there is a jailbreak after it was too late... i am not at .5 so i am "screwed" i guess... so far the forums have been really quiet about anything that is above version .3 sadly
