Last year both CuriosityStream and MotorTrend had good deals on 12 month plans.

BTW: Purchasing channel subscriptions from Amazon Prime or other services can sometimes result in less streaming material being made available than if you directly subscribe to the service. I know from past experience that Amazon might limit the number of episodes for some shows, but they are available if you directly subscribed to that service. Not sure why Amazon does that, but sometimes they do. I learned my lesson and now I only directly subscribe to services like Britbox, CuriosityStream, MotorTrend etc.

I ordered a new laptop today so that's most of the stuff from my wishlist done.

Sadly my mom died unexpectedly a few weeks ago so not feeling the holidays this year.

Just FYI, I looked and the Walmart Kobo gift card deal last year was during early December. So still hoping for a repeat again this year.

On Kobo gift cards, there is a Black Friday offer, which just showed up on my Kobo home page today (!!!), expiring tomorrow, to get 3,000 VIP points when you gift a $25 Kobo e-gift card. See the attached thumbnail.

Since points only work on the "discountable" books at Kobo, and the amount of points needed varies with the price, this is clearly a YMMV offer.

Also, one has to kind of take the offer on faith, since when I click on the "box", it doesn't provide any additional info about the offer, it just takes me to Kobo's standard e-gift card page at: https://www.kobo.com/us/en/EGiftingCustomization

I ordered one just to see if it will work, but not sure how quickly (or indeed, even IF) the points will get credited to my account. If they do get credited quickly, I'll come back here and update.

But, like you, I have my fingers crossed for the Walmart offer to repeat again sometime between now and the end of the year!

I'm so sorry for your loss. We never get over the loss of loved ones, we merely learn to live without them. I lost my parents a little over three decades ago and I understand the loss of holiday spirit since it hasn't felt like the holidays to me since.

Online spending on Black Friday decreased for the very first time

That's what they get for selling things at Black Friday pricing a month before Black Friday.

I wish they'd go back to the old system of one ad and 4 days of shopping. Friday through Sunday for Black Friday and Monday for Cyber Monday. This year was a nightmare to track.

Online sales during Black Friday took a bit of a tumble this year, marking the first time that spending has dipped lower than the previous year, as noted in a holiday shopping report by Adobe Analytics. Online shoppers reportedly spent a total of $8.9 billion this year, falling a little short of the $9 billion that was spent in 2020.

Adobe suggests that the downward trend might’ve been caused by an uptick in early spending, as some stores started sales and promotions as early as October. And when shoppers did make online purchases during Black Friday, Adobe found that 44.4 percent of those sales were made from a smartphone, a 10.6 percent increase from last year.

“For the first time ever, Black Friday saw a reversal of the growth trend of past years,” said Vivek Pandya, the lead analyst at Adobe Digital Insights. “Shoppers are being strategic in their gift shopping, buying much earlier in the season and being flexible about when they shop to make sure they get the best deals.”
