Bargain @ £0.99 from Quercus in the UK (should be the same price at other UK retailers):
Seasons of Mist by Shirley Jackson Award-winning British author Allison Littlewood (ISFDB), a 3-book omnibus of her contemporary horror novels. Contains A Cold Season (1st of a diptych), and Path of Needles and The Unquiet House, which are standalones. Apparently only one of her novels has made it to North American publication thus far, and these are unavailable there as yet. Beware if fact and fiction suddenly start to blur with this perfectly horrifying omnibus from Richard and Judy bestseller Alison Littlewood, a master of subtle horror who explodes genre conventions. Contains the titles A Cold Season, Path of Needles and The Unquiet House, plus an exclusive preview of the sequel to A Cold Season: A Cold Silence. (individual book synopses are in the full blurb) |

Hmm... the book sounds good, if a little slow. Last edited by ZodWallop; 11-14-2017 at 01:06 PM. |

Robert McCammon's short story collection Blue World is $1.99 on Amazon. I haven't read it yet, but his short story Nightcrawlers (included here) had a terrific adaptation by William Freidkin on the '80's revival of The Twilight Zone.

Bargain @ $1.99 from some Random Penguin House imprint in Canada & the US:
Spanky by Christopher Fowler (ISFDB, SYKM, Wikipedia), 1st in a humorous 2-book diptych involving deals with personal demons which are probably about to go very wrong. Originally out from Warner Books in 1994, this edition has a nice retrospective introduction by the author, from whom we've recently received a freebie pseudonymous psychological thriller, so if you liked his writing in that, you may wish to give this a try. In this stylish Faustian horror novel from the prize-winning author of the Peculiar Crimes Unit series featuring Bryant & May, a young man learns firsthand the perils of dealing with the devil. With a dead-end job, a miserable family, and no romantic prospects, twenty-three-year-old Martyn Ross has a rotten life—until he meets his own personal demon. A Spancialosaphus Lacrimosae, or “Spanky” for short, he’s Martyn’s diabolically handsome alter ego, a tuxedoed charmer who’s willing to share his wild world of wine, women, and wealth . . . for a price. Under Spanky’s tutelage, Martyn gains confidence, career success, even a girlfriend. He’s living the good life. But like all demons, Spanky expects something in return. And it has nothing to do with Martyn surrendering his soul. In fact, quite the reverse . . . |

X-link to the DRM-free thread for some new bundles:
Humble Book Bundle Stellar Sci-Fi & Fantasy presented by Tachyon contains a couple of horror selections, including the anthology Darkness: Two Decades of Modern Horror edited by Ellen Datlow, and two Joe R. Landsdale titles (which seem more weird fiction, but he's generally kind of horror-adjacent, I've thought). If you're otherwise an sfnal multi-genre reader, it's probably a pretty good deal. StoryBundle's The Neo-Noir Bundle contains hybrid mystery/thriller works done in a noir style, mainly for sfnal subgenres, and mostly from indie authors. There's some monster and ghost offerings which seem to be more in the spooky supernatural than paranormal urban fantasy mode. YMMV. |
