Hi Penny,

Yes I think the request make sense - I didn't add the ability to download page counts to this plugin and it seems a hole was left for this scenario. I will change it so it goes ahead and does the page count download but still gives the warning dialog about books it could not get a word count for.

Bug report - Count Pages 1.13.5

- Select some entries, including pdf files
- Do 'Count Pages'
- View list of jobs running (button at bottom right of main Calibre screen)
- Select the 'Count Page/Word Statistics' job
- Do 'Stop Selected Jobs'

The job is terminated, but the process pdftohtml.exe is left running, using very high system resources.

Calibre portable 7.7

I too have been noticing lately pdftohtml.exe, as you describe, left running after other tasks like conversions. Then I need to terminate the process manually. Would need to investigate further to tell what circumstances trigger this.

Considering a similar issue I had with the Calibre 6 beta, I wonder if it might be a bug in pdftohtml itself.

I think it has always worked that way. The plugin doesn't kill the conversion process. Not a new bug. Easy to avoid generally, and easy to clean up afterwards. Would be nice to fix though.

pdftohtml is a calibre function called by this plugin. If someone wants to contribute a patch for either to ensure the .exe is terminated in this circumstance they are welcome to do so - it is beyond my skillset or interest in learning to support this in a way for multiple OS platforms. I avoid PDF where possible and don't care about count pages on those that I have so it isn't something I ever see myself.

Hello, I am trying to use this plugin for my Pocketbook Era but when I transfer the book to my ereader, the page count changes drastically.

On Calibre, using "Estimate page count/word counts", I get 480 pages. Using GoodReads, I get 400 pages. I am using the following settings (specific settings copied from the Count Pages wiki on GitHub):

Page count options:
Custom column: #pages (pages)
Algorithm: Paragraphs (APNX accurate)
Chars per page: 1500

Word count options:
Custom column: #words (Words)
Use ICU algorithm: checked

Readability options:
Flesch Reading Ease: Blank
Flesch-Kincaid Grade: Blank
Gunning Fog Index: #gfog (Gunning Fog)

When I transfer the book to my ereader, the page counts shifts to 1065 pages. Why is there such a drastic jump in the page count? This only occurs with one book, "Somewhere Beyond the Sea" by TJ Klune. My other books have the same page count as the one displayed in Calibre.

Your Pocketbook using RMSDK and you need to switch your page count algorithm Adobe Digital Editions (ADE).

APNX is for Kindles. Goodreads using some pBook version page number. Neither is what you want.

Gotcha, I tried using ADE and the page count is still bizarre. Way of the Kings by Brandon Sanderson jumped from 1,041 pages on Calibre to ~2900 pages on the ereader device.

The book in my original post, Somewhere Beyond the Sea shows 337 pages in Calibre and 981 pages on the ereader device.

I made sure all of my library uses the same ADE algorithm/same page count settings but it seems all of my books now show drastically different page counts than the one in Calibre.

I tried converting my full library to ADE and made sure the settings were identical for each book but now all of them are showing drastically different page counts than what's displayed in Calibre.

Somewhere Beyond the Sea:
Calibre: 337 pages
Pocketbook: 967 pages

The Way of the Kings
Calibre: 1041 pages
Pocketbook: 3523 pages

Slow Horses:
Calibre: 274 pages
Pocketbook: 670 pages

Is it normal that the page count is this different?
