I always notice Reacher's attitude and fitness. My mind doesn't seem to pay attention to the physical descriptions - just the "fit and ready for anything" part. I guess I picture him as average height, but incredibly fit. Whatever!

It bugs me because there are hundreds of descriptions of Reacher in the books as a big man.
Just from the first chapter of The Affair (which is written in the first person) is the following quote; "Or maybe I stood out because I was bigger and taller than anyone within a hundred yards." Unless they set the film in Willy Wonka's Oompa Loompa village, Cruise can't pull that off. |

Cruise is the wrong actor for this. He doesn't have the ability to be Reacher.
In some ways, he is always Tom Cruise instead of the character. Reacher has said he has hands the size of hams. How's that going to look in the movie with small hands. I really don't understand this at all, but I bet it is a package deal with the studio. This is a great thread. |

as i said earlier in the thread, marky mark was an incredibly bad casting choice for the movie "shooter" which was based on "point of impact."
tom cruise as reacher might come close, although i think as an actor he beats marky mark. |

I really enjoyed it too, though I was just a teeny bit disappointed that the story had not taken up where Worth Dying For left off - on his way to meet the mysterious Susan in Virginia. |

I have read them all as well and am eagerly awaiting "The Affair", Child's latest Reacher novel. JerseyBiker, if you read one, then like most of us you will seek them out one after the other. To me they were almost as good as the old Ian Fleming James Bond books.

I read all the Reacher books this last year and loved them. Recently I picked up David Baldaccis Zero Day. His main character in this new series, Puller, is basically Jack Reacher. Basically an army cop with rough family background, a clock in his head, drinks lots of coffee, and is a big dude.
While I'm glad to have another book that is similar, I have to wonder about Baldaccis new character and whether it's a direct play on Reacher's popularity. |

while i found several of the reacher books entertaining but not great, i just finished "die trying" and to me it was pretty weak.
