I think you'll find that pronunciation is default in many "Commonwealth" variants of English, like Aus Eng and NZE for example

The mispronunciations in my current listen are mounting. Louis (as in Mountbatten)*. Monongahela. Cayuga. Coughlin. I can't remember them all. Sigh. I blame both the narrator, who clearly doesn't care when it's a proper name he's not seen before, and the director/producer/whoever's in charge of qc!
*And compounding this, the author gets Edwina's title wrong. In the 20's, she was Lady Louis, not Lady Mountbatten. And he even quotes a source who got it right! Did he not notice, or did he snicker to himself at the idiot...? |
