Dear BazookaJoe: You are a pleasure to work with. Of course.
I just did a Poke3 3.2.2 update using the autoupdate method (just because). Of course I had to redo all my patches but it took a lot less time than I thought. My criteria is always that I can screw my device up any amount as long as I can return to my current book and have everything exactly how it was and everything is good. |

@Renate
I've recently picked up a Windows 11 tablet. I'm trying out your edl.exe on this tablet with my Note Air 2 just to see if it will work. I've used Zadig and I believe I have the correct driver installed. I put my Note Air 2 into edl mode. I enter the following: edl.exe /lnoteair2.bin Then I get the following message: Could not find EDL device. My first guess is that I have a driver problem somewhere. Anything else that could be wrong? Thanks! |

You could try uploading usblog.exe (in the sig). (Go up to Windows)
When you plug in a device in EDL mode it should come up as 05c6/9008. Note that EDL is persnickety and you can't disconnect and reconnect the cable. You have to go to EDL mode with the cable connected and start fresh. Windows 11 could be an issue. I have a utility to check this, but it's not so disimilar from edl.exe as to really tell you anything. Still, it could be useful if this can't be resolved. Code:
C:\>winusb 05c6 9008 Found generic device at 05c6/9008 Path: \\?\usb#vid_05c6&pid_9008#8&1203f332&0&10#{a5dcbf10-6530-11d2-901f-00c04fb951ed} In bulk endpoint 81 Out bulk endpoint 01 Everything ok Last edited by Renate; 05-18-2022 at 03:39 PM. |

Thanks for the reply! I have another way to do EDL that works for me, but I wanted to try out your edl.exe on Windows. I'll give your suggestions a try!

I had to read through this whole thread again to remember what happened.
The Note Air 2 does have an SDM662, also named "Bengal", but more specifically named "SM_KAMORTA_H". There are multiple "SDM662"s and "Bengal"s. There are also many model numbers with "KAMORTA" in them, like: QCM_KAMORTA, QCS_KAMORTA, QRB_KAMORTA, SM_KAMORTA, SMP_KAMORTA, SM_KAMORTA_H, SMP_KAMORTA_H. Apparently the best loader is the one in this post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...&postcount=107 Qualcomm_662_loader.elf, 668,796 bytes MD5 = cd7a91985353e0a1a6d581b423e1325c QC_IMAGE_VERSION_STRING=BOOT.XF.4.1-00200-KAMORTALAZ-1 The one in the bkerler/Loaders/qualcomm/factory/sdm662/ is not the right one for us. 0014d0e100000000_d40eee56f3194665_FHPRG.bin, 660,620 bytes MD5 = 1e7c8fbadbab7127b8982bbcd344f646 QC_IMAGE_VERSION_STRING=BOOT.XF.4.1-00187-KAMORTALAZ-2 |

Hi,
Some updates on NoteAir2 with bkerler and Renate's edl.exe tool. I'd love is someone could write a tutorial on how to get bkerler's edl to work on Windows 10 because this is the second time I've tried with no luck. I installed python 3.9 via .msi installer, then git, I successfully did all this: Code:
git clone https://github.com/bkerler/edl cd edl git submodule update --init --recursive pip3 install -r requirements.txt Anyways on to @Renate's edl.exe. At first I kept getting: Code:
Found EDL 9008 Could not read device That was with Zadig driver which is my normal method (screenshot below). Now, I don't know if it's just because I've messed about with UsbDk as well and that was causing me issues with drivers OR it was because I'm an idiot and used the wrong loader (though I don't think so I treid all 3 multiple times with /u and without /u) or if it was because I went into UsbDk (It's in Program Files>UsbDk Runtime Library yeah, the instructions on bkerler are not at all clear why this exists and how to do the thing) and opened a new command prompt inside that folder and ran "UsbDkController -n" and got this: Code:
C:\Program Files\UsbDk Runtime Library>UsbDkController -n Enumerate USB devices Found 4 USB devices: 0. FilterID: 1, Port: 16, ID: 045e:0306, Configs: 1, Speed: 4 USB\VID_045E&PID_0306 201209010309 Descriptor for configuration #0: size 44 1. FilterID: 1, Port: 13, ID: 05c6:9008, Configs: 1, Speed: 4 USB\VID_05C6&PID_9008 13 Descriptor for configuration #0: size 44 It works with the 662 patched loader here (thanks @downeaster59!!!!) I ended up renaming it for ease of use below: Code:

The "ERROR"s on GPT 6 is just because there isn't a GPT 6.
I've been just enumerating GPTs until I get an error then I know how many there are. The new bit with the "Querying info" will tell me that so I don't have to search blindly. In any case, it's an anticipated error. I don't own any Qualcomm things with UFS which is why I have to ask you so that I can plug the responses into my EDL server emulator so that I can work on/test my EDL client. One reason things get so tricky with this Qualcomm stuff is that with Sahara the device is supposed to speak first and with Firehose the host is supposed to speak first. Normally you know whether you have loaded the loader already so there's not much confusion. I could try to make it try to find its way through, but I've learned that there is so much flakiness in all this EDL stuff that it might only work for some chips and not others. When you do an "edl /z" it should disconnect immediately. For a normal reboot on an unlocked device there is a built-in 30 second delay before it boots anything after that. If you still get no response that's probably because the image that it is booting to is broken. Since I have the reed switch on my EDL test points I can do this all day long (with the switch activated): Code:
C:\>edl.exe /lpoke3 /z C:\>edl.exe /lpoke3 /z C:\>edl.exe /lpoke3 /z |

Also, for the Python stuff: You need to be more explicit. If you have a file association then you need to have edl be named edl.py
Code:
C:\>edl.py Code:
C:\>\somewhere\or\other\python.exe edl.py |

Changing the file extension of edl to.py was a start! I'm still a bit overwhelmed and not getting it working. Anyway I'm still much happier using Renate's edl.exe
I do need help to test boot my patched boot image and then to flash it. If I follow Cascade94's post: adb reboot fastboot fastboot devices (yes it returns my device fine) fastboot reboot bootloader fastboot boot mypatched.img I get the dreaded <waiting for any device> message and it just hangs and nothing happens. Now, if it just takes forever please let me know but I waited a good while on three attempts and that's not usually how that goes with booting/flashing. I tried using Cascade's image and my own patched image. I tried the method that I use on my Boox Leaf: adb reboot fastboot fastboot devices (yes returns device) fastboot boot mypatched.img I get: Code:
Sending 'boot.img' (98304 KB) OKAY [ 0.384s] Booting FAILED (remote: 'Unrecognized command boot') fastboot: error: Command failed If I get to adb reboot fastboot alone, I can't actually manually select to get into bootloader (or recovery for that matter) because I have no dang volume buttons to change the selection (do not get me started on this case it is horrible). Is there another way? I could work out how to flash with Renate's edl.exe tool but the thing that worries me that way is I can't test the boot before flash like I usually do. If people have suggestions that would be lovely thanks, otherwise Renate, if I have to go with edl.exe best I wait for a recovery just in case yeah? Thanks all. |

No, it looks like there is something wrong with your bootloader command processing.
The "gold standard" is always flashing, then rebooting normally. OTOH, this is not a good idea if your image is actually bad for some reason. OTOH, since you know your way around EDL there is not too much risk as long as you don't destroy the partitioning. As much as I'm a partisan of edl.exe there is not a world of difference between that and edl.py |

@mergen3107 thanks that's very kind! I will give that a play in the next few days.
Everyone, what do you think the issue could be with bootloader then? In Developer Options the OEM unlocking is greyed out saying it's already unlocked, just like my Boox Leaf. I just tested on my Leaf in case something has go awry with drivers but that's working fine also my drivers are all up-to-date and it's latest SDK. I'm using their supplied cable too. Do any other NoteAir2 users have this problem? When you boot to fastboot, do you get the image attached on my last post? I'll add it again to this post just in case you don't see it. So that's what happens on adb reboot fastboot. It goes to that menu (which I can't use anyway!), seems to reboot to bootloader OK (at least fastboot says it did so OK and it then changes to the ONYX screen) but then won't accept commands as stated previously. I tried using fastbogus too and that doesn't work. I did run this command because reasons (it was in a post of Renate's) and that's also saying bootloader is unlocked but also unknown right at the bottom, just like my menu says bootloader is unknown: Code:

Total time: 0.908s As it's a new product I just bought, I also wonder if they're cracking down some other way that earlier models don't to make it harder to root? Could UsbDk or libUSB be interfering? Edit: Is the secure boot thing a problem? I'd really rather have a fully working fastboot if I can this makes me anxious (and it bothers me in principle) and I don't really know anything about this otherwise. I'm confused (normal state for me).
EDL is working ok since you can grab images. The fastboot that you are showing is the fastbootd of recovery which is not really the same as regular "reboot bootloader". Are you having some problem? |

This is what I tried like Cascade94 said:
adb devices = fine, device is present adb reboot fastboot = produces that menu picture I uploaded on my screen. I've tried this 10 times at minimum. Same result every time. fastboot devices = to check if fastboot is working and device read (yes it does) fastboot reboot bootloader = appears to work get an OK message. Screen turns to ONYX hooray. fastboot boot mypatched.img <waiting for any device>. I've also tried going directly to bootloader: adb devices adb reboot bootloader fastboot boot mypatched.img <waiting for any device> I've tried no bootloader at all: adb devices adb reboot fastboot fastboot devices fastboot boot mypatched.img That just gives an error because it doesn't recognise "boot" because bootloader and I have boot_a and boot_b blah blah. I'm not really willing to try fastboot flash boot_a mypatched.img, if I can't even get it to boot to check if the .img works. I just won't. I've always booted up to see if root worked in Magisk before properly flashing/installing. Always. Maybe there's a special syntax that I'm not understanding because of two boot partitions but still, Cascade94 apparently gets their images to boot to test and see if it works unless things have changed since their last guide. I understand I could flash through edl but I'd really rather work out fastboot first/understand my device properly. Edit: and how to boot a patched image first before flashing. That's always been an option available I want to understand how that works on a device with two boot partitions. Last edited by bazookajoe; 06-02-2022 at 02:03 PM. |
