I don't understand why there is this thread that goes on for years, supposedly for people to report various bugs. It just doesn't seem right.
Each bug should be on its own thread. Am I missing something here? Why isn't this thread simply locked? |

Not sure why we would need a separate thread for each bug or possible bug. This is not an official Kobo support forum though in the dim distant past there were some Kobo people who posted on MobileRead before they were driven out.

This is a thread for us to rant about Kobo bugs and perhaps find solutions with each others' help. It's not about actually getting bugs fixed, since we don't work at Kobo.

Oh. I thought this thread was here to collect all the bugs in one place so that the ranting doesn't pollute the rest of the forum with piles of threads about bugs we can't fix.

This general bug thread that has been going on for years has no focus. How can people talk about multiple bugs without it being confusing? Taken that point of view further, you could even make a point that all the discussions here about Kobo (not just bugs) could exist under a single thread. Or even the entire forum. Each bug represents a topic around which a conversation can happen. It should be in its own thread, to keep things organised, focused and encourage participation. That way, other users are more likely to find threads about bugs they are experiencing and are more likely to contribute to the conversation. |

And that would require someone to curate the bugs who has access to multiple Kobo ereaders and the skills require to decide which are real bugs, which are people misunderstanding the operation of their Kobo or other software and which are PEBKAC issues. Sorry but I did that as part of my employment. It was time consuming to curate the reported bugs, try to reproduce them and report them to the appropriate entity.
Are you volunteering to start and maintain multiple threads for Kobo bugs? FWIW, some of the bugs posted here have been reported to Kobo if they are reproducible by someone who cares to do so. Would you have preferred a thread title such as Vent and Rant About Potential Kobo Bugs Thread? |

Difficulty or impossibility of highlighting
Bonjour,
In a previous post, I pointed out that highlighting sometimes disappeared after switching off the e-reader (kobo Libra H2O). There was no response to this problem except to invite me to stop using kebup formatting. Lately, I've noticed that highlighting is sometimes difficult or impossible. I've noticed that it depends on the start and end zones. There doesn't seem to be priority selection of the text being highlighted until the end of the finger release. This conflicts with the top menus, the keys and their page-turning zones, and the bottom menu. Finally, speculating on how the text selection works, I was wondering if poorly done code could make the highlighting function difficult. Thanks for your input and suggestions. firmware 4.38.23038 Last edited by halnurvies; 08-02-2024 at 11:11 AM. Reason: add firmware |

Kobo Libra Colour user.
Device keeps restarting from notetaking. Unreliable for notetaking. Only simple to do list. Going a bit more than simple, you will lose your notes. Important to sync frequently. |

I've heard that the Sage and Elipsa have the same problem, so it's neither new nor likely to be fixed any time soon, sadly.

Kobo Libra H2O freezes when loading cover image
Hi. My Kobo Libra H2O started having an issue a while back where it will freeze when loading the cover image. This happens when it goes to sleep and displays the cover, or when I open a book for the first time and it starts on the cover image.
If it's plugged in at the time, the freezing doesn't happen. I've done a full factory reset multiple times to try to diagnose this. All my books are sideloaded using Calibre and I've found that if I remove the cover in Calibre, factory default the Kobo, then load the new coverless book, I never have a problem. I've found one reference of someone with the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/kobo/commen...i_open_a_book/ I am pretty sure this is a software problem with the Kobo. Any advice? |

Maybe try reducing the cover resolution in calibre and sending it. If you don't edit the book and reduce the image in the book, it might still freeze when first opening book, but then at least it wouldn't freeze other times and you can verify this is the issue. |

It's on the latest firmware that's available for the libra h20, which is indeed 4.38.23038. I just found that it's freezing on the main menu as well when I went to verify the firmware. Awesome! When it freezes, the eink goes negative; all the lights are dark and vice versa. I've since learned about KOreader, and while I don't really like the interface as much, it never freezes, confirming a software issue with the native reader app. |

Have you run the bug check in the Calibre editor? The book is probably malformed in some way, and you'll have to edit it to stop the crashing.
If you didn't experience this problem on older firmware, you could also try downgrading, but probably one or more books is to blame (aside from Kobo's poor error handling). |
