Remember Kindle ?
A little while ago when Kindle news came on the scene, I managed to copy the file containing pictures of innards from this device on the FCC site. Soon after, the file was pulled out and nobody could get it anymore. When I tried to post it, I was told by admin. protocol it was too big and since the document is protected and unfracturable I just gave up.
I have just learned from Alex that our upload throughput capacity has been bumped up. Here it is. Last edited by yvanleterrible; 07-28-2010 at 11:40 PM. |

Anybody know what that thing on pages 10 & 11 might be? It looks like some sort of antenna maybe?

If I remember correctly; kindle is supposed to be wi-fi or bluetooth ready. Is'nt this the kind of feature that preoccupies the FCC ?

I just love the idea of a keyboard. Why won't the others do so? You got them on phones for goodness!

Any device that emits RF is subject to the FCC. Since there are trace RFs coming from the CPU, it is under their review. Many can get a class waiver based on the CPU if the CPU manufacturer has already gone through the process. WiFi and Bluetooth are both under their authority to review.
No, the FCC has authority only in the USA and USA controlled areas like the Virgin Islands and American Somoa. The EU has its own set of rules that differ from the FCC. Canada and Mexico have their own sets of rules too although they are closer to the FCC's rules than the EU rules. |

From looking at the pictures, it looks like the Kindle has the same processor as the iLiad (Intel PXA255). Could make things interesting....

Interesting observation Adam, do you think that would make it able to support stylus input?

Simply put, no.
Stylus input on the iLiad is because of the wacom technology the display uses. Unless you somehow retrofitted a wacom tablet to the Kindle, it won't work. However, depending on how the Kindle is setup, how similar the rest of the hardware is, etc, (complete speculation here) it may be possible to run the Kindle's OS on the iLiad (or vice versa). We'll have to wait an see. |

Very interesting speculation. Here's hoping it already runs some relatively compatible linux!
