Question Booq

Hi,

I've seen a Cooler-er and a Booq, and they seem to me pretty the same. Is there any real difference between them?

They do both appear to use the same hardware (a Netronix EB600, with the 8 gray scale Broadsheet controller). The Cooler uses Netronix's standard firmware, but the Booq might use an enhanced firmware. For example, they say they have a dictionary in their latest firmware.

The hardware does look identical. I'm grabbing a copy of the firmware to have a look - it might even be possible to put the booq firmware onto the Cool-ER.

From nosing around in the firmware the Cool-ER and the Booq look compatible.
Some of the stuff is very stock Netronix, including the Sudoku and the music player.

The biggest differences are that the Booq reader application is about 15mb bigger than the Cool-ER one, and there seem to be a whole host of additional menus and interface stuff, including the dictionary application.

Their 1.0 version of the firmware was apparently linked to the 1.12.6 version of the reader, but I can't see anything about which version the 2.0 firmware is.

The Booq is a Spanish rebranding of the NetronixEB600 (though the brander has the face to publish that it was "designed in Spain ), but it has twice as much internal memory and it seems that the firmware is not too bad.

firmware

The new editions of Cool-ers firmware are much improved from the first few revisions.

Most the ereaders use the same basic hardware, as e-ink screens have one manufacturer.
